Indiana Pacers 2.0

Recommended Posts

Barring a huge comeback in this series I'm kind of fearful that we'll use the excuse that we've made back to back ECFs so we shouldn't actually retool the roster, and give it another try with this core. Think we should make two or three big changes to the roster, start a mini-rebuild mainly around PG and maybe Lance. Three straight years we've lost to the same guys, when something isn't working you should adjust and fix it. I hope we do if we lose this series

In hindsight, I think the best thing that could have happened to the Pacers would have been to lose the Atlanta series.  If that happened, no one would question major changes needed to be made.  Now I'm afraid they'll try to fix it with band aids and chewing gum.

But here's the problem: how do you adjust and "fix it?" The Pacers aren't going to acquire anyone more talented than Lebron or Wade. Their best bet might be a quicker point guard who's more of a threat to score, but how do they get one?

The Eastern Conference is basically at the mercy of Miami. No one has beaten them in a playoff series, and the Pacers and maybe the Bulls are the only teams that have a reasonable chance of doing so next year. This is a lot like the 90's where the Pacers just had to wait for MJ to retire and for the Knicks to get old. They didn't make drastic changes to try and become better than the Bulls; they stuck with what they had and their time finally arrived.

I think the Pacers need to make a few tweaks this offseason, but big changes aren't the way to go, IMO.

I've said it, and I continue to say it. George Hill is not the PG that will take us where we want to go. Don't pick up Turner or Allen's options and try to move Hill. Opens space for Lance and hopefully a PG.

I guess my perspective comes from my belief that this year was the best chance for this core group of guys to win it all. Honestly even with major tweaks to the bench unit I highly doubt this would be a team that makes the ECF again next year. West is going to be another year older, I don't know how much better Hibbert can actually get and wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get any better, George Hill probably won't have a leap in his production. PG and Lance are young, but who else on the team really screams out they can get a ton better with this core.

Granted starting a mini rebuild around a guy like PG would more than likely lead to a year, maybe two, of less than high quality play. But long term putting better pieces around him to succeed might yield the result we all want in the end, rather than just sticking with a core that has proven they can't get over the hump.

I feel really pessimistic typing all of this.......

ESPN is awful about taking coincidental or correlated statistics and claiming causality, but this is still interesting.

@SportsCenter: Want to know who will win tonight's Heat-Pacers game? Pay close attention to Roy Hibbert's first shot. (via @ESPNMag) http://t.co/YQKYLvtM6a[attachment=904:ImageUploadedByBtownBanners1401311562.503167.jpg]

Paul George leads the league in shots made at precisely 7:53 EST on the 3rd Tuesday of the month when the month's corresponding number is even and the name of the month ends in a vowel. But everyone knew that already.

Unbelievable, if someone doesn't go ape **** in the locker room I'll be mad. This isn't acceptable at all

Bob Knight could rip into these guys and it wouldn't matter. They've quit. They know they aren't winning in Miami even if they win tonight.

I'm honestly embarrassed to call myself a fan of this team. What a bunch of losers.

If it's so embarrassing, stop being a fan. And, more importantly, stop whining. They're getting outplayed by a better team. I'm sure they "want it" (whatever that means) just as much as the Heat, but it isn't happening. Pretty sure the sun will still come up in the morning.

I do appreciate the whole Lance blowing in LeBron's ear. If nothing else no one can deny the guy is a character, and entertaining as heck when he does stuff like this

Me too! Antics such as this diverts and lessens the apprehension others (RH?) on the team may be experiencing. With tunnel vision, one might define him as a whack job, but I see it as an individual who is not intimidated by the big show and is committed to enjoying his work and showing teammates there is nothing to fear. Have fun doing it and the game comes easy!

Lmfao. If LeBron or Wade did that I guarantee most of you would be throwing a fit. Just like if the Pacers lose it's the refs fault or if Miami flops it's pathetic but if Indiana does it's part of the game. Not all of you are like that but some of the crap I read is laughable.
