Indiana's Youth...

Recommended Posts

Here is a breakdown of our average minutes played per player. I have also gone down the list and included their class for you to paint the picture of how young this team is. The second half let downs have been disappointing, but with this much youth can it really be that big of a surprise?

UPDATED: This breaks it down by class. Last time we were this young we won 10 Games...

We currently start 3 Freshman, 1 Sophomore & a Senior.
We have 6 Freshman or Sophomores receiving > 10min per game.

This season has been tough, especially following our last two, but look at that picture... This team is YOUNG and we were crazy to expect much more out of them. All that being said, I think we can make a run to close out the season. I'm not sure if it will be enough, but our young players are gaining some experience and it will help us in the future. Stand behind these guys, there are good days ahead.

Wouldn't we kind of have the same problem next season? Yogi will be a junior but troy, Stan, devin, and possibly noah will be sophomores with RJO and JB2 and Max coming in as freshman with JB2 and RJO probably getting good minutes. Still going to be young BUT I'm hoping this major experience for these freshman will make them play as juniors and seniors with a very experienced bench.

It shouldn't be as bad next year but youth will still be a factor. It takes a few years for good recruiting classes to equate into experienced teams. CTC got the current sophomore team and the current freshman team then lots of people seemed to think that would mean instant success. As time goes on and he keeps getting good talent and some stay 3-4 years it will even out. Back in the old days most players stayed four years. Keeping consistency was an easier task. Now a coach recruits a kid who has a good year he's gone to the NBA. Even ken$$ucky Cal and all his money is finding it a bumpy road to travel. He had success but even top classes are struggling. Last year was awful for him. This year is better but they aren't the super team they were cracked up to be by any means. Give coach time to consistently get good recruits and get the system flowing. Yeah, I know that doesn't sit well with the instant gratification crowd.

I really am excited for the future. Stan is a 4-year type of guy and that's scary to think about because he can be really good once he learns to not be so reckless with the ball. Hopefully Hanner stays and develops more over the next two years as well.

I still stand by what I've said before, with a 68 team field we shouldn't be missing the tournament period.  Other young teams aren't struggling like we are, Michigan is starting a freshman point guard and only one senior and they've only lost two conference games with wins @MSU, @Wisc, @Minn, and crushed Northwestern.

Michigan does have 2 lottery picks this year, though. They're also somewhat experienced in the frontcourt.
