How much longer until Crean is on the hot seat?

Recommended Posts

My only point here is if Crean is thinking in terms of Noah getting the ball in his hands more, I am in favor of that.  If it requires inventive ways rather than relying on post feeds when teams are keying on that, well Noah is at least a threat no matter where he gets the ball.  If teams have to respect his 3 point range, they have to cover him and he can pass accordingly.  I'd like to think our most talented player is better than being relegated to Jeff Foster garbage man status.

Noah Vonleh leaves a bit to be desired in the post. Getting more touches on the perimeter may be his best shot at scoring if he doesn't shoot 10+ FTs in a game.

I'd like a bigger sample size in the post. He has a gorgeous hook shot (both hands) and he's pretty powerful. Definitely could use some work, but we just haven't seen much of it.

He is shooting 57.9% from downtown and his stroke has been buttery smooth so I really don't see why anyone would have such a big issue with getting him more looks from the perimeter when teams have been suffocating our half-court offense to death by packing it in.

Just watching him, I think at this point in time he can get pushed around a bit and isn't a great finisher. I may just be overreacting or using selective memory though. I think Noah Vonleh should be used more inside and out, and don't think there's any excuse for him to have the third most shot attempts on the team.

Noah has made just five less 3s than Will Sheehey, while attempting 42 less. I am more than fine with him shooting more and getting the ball more on the perimeter. I hope most agree.

I agree. He needs to be 2nd to Yogi at least. Who actually is 2nd? Will?

Yes, but Noah is closing in on second. Yogi leads by about 130 I think.

Yeah that's completely inexcusable.

Jeff Foster averaged a double-double in his two years playing at Texas State. So, I would actually be quite happy if Noah Vonleh played like Jeff Foster.

Even the legendary RMK believed in inverting the offense when necessary.

And I'll betcha that this IU team's offense, specifically as it applies to Noah Vonleh, gets inverted this weekend when the Hoosiers travel to West Layflat to take on the Boilers:

Purdue quite literally does not play zone defense. Ever.

AJ Hammons better be ready to guard that three.

AJ Hammons is gonna have a tough time protecting the rim from Yogi and Stan while he's out guarding that Vonleh three ball.

Hammons is prolly too lazy to leave the paint and guard it

All kidding aside, Hammons is playing at a much higher energy level this year. He'll be on an NBA roster some day in my opinion. He's still inconsistent, but you can be sure he'll be fired up for the IU game.

Man... all of a sudden I'm really feeling a blowout in West Lafayette... the good kind.

I'm good with Vonleh taking more 3s.  I know he hasn't shot a ton but isn't he shooting something like 50% from deep?  I'll take it!  I would like to see more of a two man game with Yogi and Vonleh on one side with Will and Stan Rob slashing into the lane.  I have been meaning to draw up some plays against the zone on the whiteboard at work but I have been too busy.  I'm sure coach isn't just telling them to go out and play "streetball" but players need to be held accountable.  I saw several quick shots in Saturday's game that cost us momentum.  This is still a really young team, even if it is halfway through the season, and learning.  I like this team going forward.  As for coach, I'll give him a few more seasons before even thinking of putting him on the hot seat.

Edit:  Relax people, it's just a game.  I think this coach staff and players want it just as bad as we do.
