The Rotation

Recommended Posts

I know this has been discussed on here before. There is no reason in this world we need to be playing 12-13 guys a game! We don't have 12-13 guys (right now) that are B1G basketball players. Love our walkons but they are walkons for a reason! I know Howard does somethings "decent" and doesn't make mistakes but other than not making mistakes does the kid give you? NOTHING!!! So let's keep him and JM on the bench where they belong. Here's the guys that need to play.

Yogi

Vonleh

Sheehey

Williams

Robinson

Perea (10 minutes at best, unless foul trouble)

Gordon (same as Perea)

Davis (would like to see get more time)

Etherington (5-8 mins)

and when/if Hollowell gets his head out of his butt, he takes Davis' spot.

Honestly, I would prefer to see Howard get minutes over Perea at this point and would prefer to see Stan and Etherington getting minutes over Williams. What I don't want to see is Perea, Etherington, Marlin and Howard all on the floor at the same time.

We'll probably never have 12-13 players that are all true B1G caliber players, there's a reason their that far down the bench.  Most teams don't go that deep for a reason.

As for Howard, I want him over Perea and Davis and Hollowell at this.  The latter 3 screw up way too often.

Agree! Never should those 4 be on the floor at the same time ever again. I think that is the slowest possible lineup that we could've put on the floor at that time. That was an ugly 3 minutes

Well Marlin is reputed to be a good shooter, but he never takes a shot. Perea gets fumble fingers too much, and Howards going to a few points here and there off of putbacks. The only one who looks like  he is getting some scoring instincts is AE and at this point he is a complimentary guy, not someone who can put a team on his back. The lineup I would like to see the most of is Vonleh, Yogi, Sheehey, Robinson and Etherington. Bring Howard, Williams and Gordon as subs. The rest of them filler minutes.

That's something I really don't like about our offense.  It's so dependent on a player creating his own shot, we don't run plays that are designed to get someone open.  So even if Marlin can shoot, it won't matter if he doesn't create the shot himself.  Same with Etherington and Hartman really.

Agreed, put together any kind of decent half court offense and Etherington and Hartman have a lot more value offensively. The thing is that would even benefit Sheehey, Yogi and Gordon.

Have I mentioned I really hate our half court offense?  Blackmon would be lethal if he had a few plays ran to get him open.

As for Blackmon, fortunately he can make his own shot.[/quote]

I was about to ask if he can create before I read this; thank God. It just occured to me that he will never get open shots out of the offensive "sets".

From what I've seen, yeah he can.  He'll get some open looks from defenses collapsing or breakdowns, but he won't get any plays that are designed to get him open.

I think that I have some old, Knight era games, on VHS...should I send those to Crean?  Maybe it will help.

Better not, he might get confused about what an off ball screen is and wonder why the point isn't trying to go one on one every play.

no, please don't. Knight left. Let's keep it that way

I don't think he was being serious.

Still though, Knight's motion offense did a lot of things that would greatly help Crean's half court offense:  off ball screens, curls, flashes, back screens, etc.  He also ran plays that were designed to get shooters open, defenders would've been worn out from chasing Hulls around the court because Knight would've ran him off screen after screen after screen.
