If someone wanted to argue he was the greatest modern American songwriter I’m not sure I’d agree but I wouldn’t argue, either. Immense talent. In honor of Townes I busted out 1 of the great music docs ever, “Heartworn Highways”, an incredibly raw look at some of the pioneers of Outlaw Country. I don’t care if that kind of music hits your palette or not, you owe to yourself to check this out. It’s incredible. I frequently pick out “To Live Is to Fly” on the guitar. Townes is the best, and he couldn’t sing worth a sh!t so me croaking out his vocals doesn’t seem sacrilege. Pancho and Lefty, and Wichita Lineman the two greatest Americana songs ever written? Wouldn’t hear an argument from me. Demo 1 Quote

Fantastic-Plant is 77 and his voice still has resonance—don’t smoke young performers and this can be you. He sings under the super high notes but otherwise he still has vibrato and everything else. Also—props to the Colbert show. The sound mix was pristine. Demo 1 Quote

I think he smoked into the 80s or 90s, but I’m not sure he was hitting most of the notes from the original since the early 70s either way. It won’t happen, but a final Celebration Day reunion show done in this lowkey style would just about put me in the ground. Demo 1 Quote

Hovadipo Posted Sunday at 01:16 PM Posted Sunday at 01:16 PM Not sure if the real music nerds here have seen this yet. I’ve scrolled through it a bit, mostly stuff that isn’t my speed, but it’s got @Demo and @Stuhoo written all over it. Don’t let the tweet fool you, it goes wayyyy more off the beaten path than Nirvana and Phish shows. Demo, Muskie plays the four and Stuhoo 1 2 Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted Sunday at 07:31 PM Posted Sunday at 07:31 PM Don't want to clutter the portal thread but several posts talking about the late Prince reminded me of this. If you've never seen it, wait for the end and a pretty incredible solo. Quote
