#USMNT - 2014 World Cup

Recommended Posts

It's crazy b/c my wife grew up playing soccer and ever since we met she has occasionally tried to get me in to the game, but I blew it off b/c I had that "slow and boring" uninformed mentality towards it. She didn't have a pro team that she followed or anything, mainly b/c it was not something I was in to, but now its something we share as a hobby together and I actually feel ridiculous for my attitude towards it for so long. I was way wrong. We are doing the same thing with our friends and slowly converting them as well. The WC will help for sure but some have already picked a team like we did...Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, some more Everton fans, so it should make for a fun club season. I've been amazed at the support Nashville FC is getting so far. For the first year of a 4th tier team I expected a few hundred people out for games but we've had over 1800 at each of our first two home games! Which is capacity for the venue we play in right now. I never expected they'd have to start looking for a bigger venue only halfway through the first season. I hear that the Indy Eleven team is getting some really solid support as well which is great to hear.

Yeah I've heard Indy has a really nice following, they're just terrible. They have 3 points through 12ish games so far. What originally got me into it was the 06 World Cup. After that, I picked up my first FIFA game for the 360. Then I started really getting into it. I started watching the BPL this year and began rooting for Spurs, but I'm no superfan by any means. It's interesting hearing how different soccer is in different places. I hear that English soccer is completely different from Italian and Spanish soccer. And I don't mean in national team strategies, I'm saying the way the game is actually played in the country and at the club level. Learning about things like that and new players is so much fun to me.

Well, at the beginning of those games, they could barely field a team, much less hold a practice that would help them build chemistry. Time will tell, but I would guess that they see more success in the fall season now that they have more pieces

Yeah I figured they would be like an expansion team in any other league. Didn't know they were having trouble fielding a team, though.

At the time of their first game, they only had 13-14 players signed. Since then, they have added more, including a loan from Montreal that has come up big, along with a forward that had been away playing for the U-20s of the US.

That would be very cool. All of the EPL transfer and loan rumors are insane to try to follow. But still fun to see where players might land. I just hope Everton can come up with a solid option to replace Lukaku.

That's a bummer that Indy's team had such a tough start. Nashville's team is actually at the top of their table in just the first year! Again, its the NPSL (4th tier), but still pretty cool.

On a US note, looks like Tottenham are going to make a run at Julian Green this summer. That would be awesome (as an American Spurs fan).

I can see that as a loan deal, not a permanent transfer. Since Spurs' new manager likes to press similar to Pep, I see it as a viable place for him to learn his craft against high competition.

It was good to see Jozy get his groove back against Nigeria in the final tune-up before Brazil.

The Bleacher Report article I read made it sound like they were wanting to purchase him. It would be smart to buy him now, cheaper than if he does break out in the next few years.

Yep he's an animal. Gonna be an interesting second half with Croatia playing for the point and Brazil going for the win.

Refs get beheaded in Brazil. I don't blame him.

The fact that ESPN usually talks more about Mexico (and broadcasts more of their games) than the US makes me hope Cameroon wins by 7 today.
