PPG Over/Under

Recommended Posts

Since we are inching closer to the season I am curious what everyone thinks about scoring. Probably the most uncertain I've been about how that will look in a while. I was going to post an over/under on points per game with each player. Let me know what you think!

Xavier Johnson 12.5

Mackenzie Mgbako 12.5

Malik Reneau 9.5

Kel'el Ware 9.5

Trey Galloway 9.5

Payton Sparks 5.5

CJ Gunn 5.5

Kaleb Banks 4.5

Gabe Cupps 4.5

Anthony Walker 4.5

My thoughts...I think Mackenzie will lead the team in scoring. X will be 2nd. I think Malik will score double figures. Trey and Kel'el I really don't know. I can see both being close to 10 a game. I really don't have an expectation for CJ and Kaleb. I think Cupps and Sparks will be the two best options off the bench.

I will say this..on offense this team SHOULD have more options than last year. They really relied on Trayce and Jalen with maybe Miller, Race, or Trey having an above average game.

Gunn- 4

Banks- 4

Cupps- 3

Walker- 2

5 players at double figures would be great. It's been a long time since IU had a team with scoring that spread out. It usually makes it a hard to guard team that wins a lot of games.

We are gonna have to lean heavily on the starters to score. I don't think we will have much bench scoring.

I agree. This definitely looks like a thin, top heavy team.

Gunn will be a scoring threat from the bench. If things click, he could go for big numbers. Banks is the other bench option that is programmed to score.

Reneau, Mgbako, Xavier will be over 10. Galloway will be close. Ware is the real wildcard to me. I’m not counting on him to score but that’s his game so we will see.

Going by last year, that's a pretty big IF. I think he can do better and probably will but I'll wait to see. Right now he's just a threat to shoot from the bench but not actually a threat to score.

Ware showed more flashes of being a scorer last year than Gunn did but you seem higher on Gunn than Ware, which is odd to me.

These are Good points. I’m banking on Gunn’s desire to shoot. He’s not an 8% shooter. If he settles down and shoots good, open shots he can score a lot. We don’t have guard depth. He’s gonna get chances.

For me, with Ware, it’s has nothing to do with his ability, but how much will he play and how involved will he be on the ball.

I could see the potential where Ware doesn’t get the chance to put up a lot of shots, and is still a good player for us.

CJ is the only backup shooting guard on the roster.

He better be good. At least better than Bates.

I see where you're coming from. That makes sense.

For sure agree on the starters will get the majority of the points. I think Cupps and Sparks will have moments. I really don't see Walker and Kaleb being much of a scoring threat. Hope Kaleb develops into one. Why it is so important CJ Gunn contributes, even as a reserve this year. 5-6 points a game from him would be huge.

If someone told me right now that CJ Gunn isn’t going to have at least a couple 15 point games this season, I’d take that as a sign that we’re going to have a less than successful season.
