[Class of '66 Old Fart]

MVA was beaten 56-55 by Mount Saint Joseph in the Iolani Classic.  Newell 10p; 2r; 1b in roughly 15  min. of action.  He did not play at all in the 4th Q.  Interesting tidbit is that he jumps center for MVA.

MVA defeated Milton (GA) 79-45 in the 3rd place game of the Iolani Championship.  Newell did not play in the 1st Q and only logged about 12 min.     9p; 2r; 1a; 0s; 1b; 1t.

ESPNU will carry the Montverde vs Sunrise Christian game on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 5:00.  Sunrise roster includes '25 Mikel Brown who holds an IU offer and Miro Little who had an IU offer before committing to Baylor.

Would be interesting to fully understand Kevin Boyle's coaching philosophy.  Tonight Asa Newell only gets 5 min. but got starter minutes in 3 of team's 4 games in the Iolani Classic.

Asked which teams are most involved in his recruitment, five-star wing Asa Newell names Georgia, Florida and Indiana.

He then tosses in a wild card.  “I know for sure I want to go visit Texas and go see that,” Newell said. “But that’s the only one. I’m not going to worry about visits until after the season.”

Despite the Longhorns not having a long-term coach in place, UT seems to be hanging around the periphery of the Montverde Academy star’s recruitment. Texas certainly isn't the frontrunner, but interim head coach Rodney Perry’s pitch seems to be enough to keep the program on the mind of the in-demand wing.

“(Texas assistant) coach Brandon (Chappell) tells me they still want me 100%, and it’s not really going to matter if it’s that staff or a new staff, because Texas is going to want me regardless,” Newell said.

I know Asa is a 5 star, but that is a fairly bold statement by the assistant!

Cassidy update on Newell’s recruitment. From everything that’s out there this seems correct.

Side note: It says here that he was on campus last weekend. Is that true and I missed it or am I just brain cramping?

I feel real good about landing him and Liam. I think our early due diligence along with some luck really helped us out here. Time will tell.

The only unofficial im aware of was one over the summer
