The Indiana Hoosiers (4-2-1, 1-1-0 B1G) plays at Michigan State (4-3-1, 0-0-1 B1G) in the second of two-consecutive road Big Ten Conference matches at 3 p.m. ET on Sept. 26 at DeMartin Stadium.

SETTING THE SCENE
• The Hoosiers enter the match as come-from-behind winners over Northwestern (2-1) on Tuesday night in Evanston. IU received early second-half goals from freshman forward Samuel Sarver and junior winger Herbert Endeley to erase a 1-0 halftime deficit and earn the program's first conference win of the season.
• Junior goalkeeper Roman Celentano earned his 25th-career win during the match with the Wildcats. He holds a record of 25-6-5 and has allowed just 23 goals in 37 games played. He is the 14th keeper in program history to reach 25 career victories.
• Michigan State has found a positive result in their last three matches, including a 1-0 victory over Duquesne on Tuesday.
• Over the last six seasons, Indiana holds a record of 31-3-8 against Big Ten opponents in the regular season and have outscored the conference foes 76-22 during that stretch.
 
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
• Michigan State is led by long-time head coach Damon Rensing. He has compiled a record of 128-88-34 during his 13-year run at the helm in East Lansing.
• Senior attacker Farai Mutatu leads Michigan State in goals (5) and total points (11). The reigning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week scored MSU's first hat-trick since 2012 with three goals in a come-from-behind victory over Notre Dame on Sept. 14.
• Senior midfielder Jack Beck currently leads the Big Ten Conference with six assists. He also added one goal to the Michigan State total to give him eight points on the season.
• The Spartans have turned to three different keepers this season. Redshirt senior Hunter Morse leads MSU in minutes played (450), saves (14), goals against average (1.40), save percentage (0.667) and wins (3).
• Freshman Lance McGrane has played in three games and totaled 245 minutes in net. He has conceded five tallies and made six saves.
 
SERIES HISTORY
• Indiana has traditionally dominated the series between the two Big Ten rivals and has won 42-of-55 matches played (42-8-5) all-time. The Hoosiers have found a result in 16-of-19 matches played in East Lansing and has won outright on 15 occasions.
• Indiana won the first 30 matches of the series. The rivalry has tightened up in the 25 meetings since with the Hoosiers holding a 12-8-5 advantage, including victories in the last three matchups.
• The last time IU played in East Lansing, Nov. 3, 2019, the Hoosiers earned a 1-0 victory to secure the program's second of three-straight outright Big Ten regular season championships. All-American defender Jack Maher scored the lone goal of the game in the 29th minute from the spot.
• Two current Hoosiers have recorded goals against the Spartans: Victor Bezerra and Daniel Munie.
 
HOOSIERS ON THE REBOUND
• For the second time during the 2021 season, IU was defeated (2-1) at home against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Friday, Sept. 17. The loss marked just the 15th setback for the Hoosiers in the regular season since the start of the 2014 campaign.
• In the matches immediately following a loss, Indiana holds a record of 11-0-4. IU has outscored its opponent 24-6 in those matches.
• IU bounced back from their first loss of the season (3-0 defeat to Creighton) with a 1-0 victory over Xavier on Sept. 6 at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Freshman forward Samuel Sarver netted the winner in that match. Sarver and junior winger Herbert Endeley both scored in the second half to defeat the Northwestern Wildcats (2-1) on Sept. 21 to avenge the second loss.
• Indiana has gone 119 consecutive games without back-to-back regular season losses. The streak spans 2,885 days (7 years, 10 months, and 24 days) in total dating back to 2013.

In just a little over 2 minutes into the 2nd half, the Hoosiers take a 1-0 lead on a Patrick McDonald goal.

Midway through the 2nd half and Hoosiers maintain a 1-0 lead.  Playing much tighter as after getting off 9 shots in the 1st half, Spartans have only 1 in the 2nd half.

Hoosiers make the McDonald goal hold up and get a 1-0 win over the Spartans and move their season record to 5-2-1 and 2-1-0.  They're off until next Friday at 5:00 when they'll host Michigan for a match that will be televised on ESPNU.

This team seems to be completely the opposite of any other IU team in the past. Generally they dominate and control play but other teams can get fluke goals and win. This time it seems to be IU who is getting pushed around but still winning more often than not with one random goal.

Not the ideal way to do things but we certainly are getting quality road wins this year. Now need to perform at home.

Yeah, that’s how they played most of the playoffs last season too. I can’t imagine it’s intentional, but it’s a trend we need to flip if we are going to have the success we want.
