Final score 1-0.  Dominated the stat line on our last home match of the season and still came up short.  We fired off a total of 17 shots with 7 of them on goal and came away emptyhanded.  We held Illinois to 4 total shots, just 2 on goal, but they made 1 of theirs count.  We also had 11 corners to just 3 for the Illini.

We wrap up the season with road trips to Minnesota on Sunday and the season finale on the 27th at Nebraska.

Women are on the road today at Minnesota and midway through the first half trail 1-0 as Minny's defense has limited us to a single shot attempt and that wasn't on goal.

Score remains 1-0 at the half.  IU women still with just a single shot attempt and 2 corners.  Minny has had 8 total shots, 3 on goal and 7 corners.

And the '24 season ends with a 3-1 loss to Nebraska.  Never found a scoring threat to replace Paige Webber.   And we'll have to find a replacement for GK Jamie Gerstenberg.

Was worried about Webber graduating from the moment season started and hate that I was right:(. This program has been in the mud for years and 2023 looks like a one-year exception unfortunately.

Does Coach Cig know anything about coaching soccer?  Asking for a friend.  :-)

Following the successful lower level/Cig path might be a good idea.

Here is a short list of a few people/programs we came became familar with.  Don't let the school name fool you, they have been one of the best D2 programs - Kevin Fickes - Women's Soccer Coach - Colorado School of Mines Athletics. They have been strong D2 program consistently.  Another regular in the D2 NCAAs is Jay Entlich - Head Coach - Women's Soccer Coaches - Columbus State University Athletics.  At the NAIA level, which the top NAIA teams compare well to D2 you have Steve Hamilton - Women's Soccer Coach - University of the Cumberlands Athletics. We got a good long look at Hamilton's Cumberlands program with several visits, calls with him etc.  He has been building that program year after year with a combination of internationals and top players in the US.

Not a fan of this hire. Didn't really set the world on fire at Ball State and if you notice there is very little talk about a ton of success in press release which is never a good thing.

This strikes me as a "field a program hire for Title IX" and I don't expect this hire to change anything. Women's Soccer is way down the list at IU and this hire is very very unlikely to change that.

He did play on the men's team for a bit at IU in early 2000's but never saw the field much I don't believe.

Interesting.  A friend's daugher plays for him at BSU so I will reach out.  I know the assistant coach there checked in with my daughter but he knew her from club and she is down a level from D1.  We knew a few girls who went there but like you said it does not say powerhouse on paper.  Hopefully it turns out better that it might seem.

Update: they did not mind the coach but she noted they struggled this year finishing 11th. Had hoped for a “he is great and …” but did not get anything pro or con. Hopefully he has great instate club connections because the prior staff did not.
