He'll be a contributor next year. Depending on the coaching hire, he could start as a stretch 4, do a little bit of everything.

IUBB vs Gonzaga - Thursday , 11.28.24 @ 2:30 on ESPN2
BA47591 replied to OliviaPope40's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
We have some really good kids on this team. I feel bad for some of them. There's nothing about our current program that should inspire anyone. Pete put the money together and hire your boy. -
We have the best compilation of 8 players in the country if properly implemented. Jmo Bartorvok has us 17-12. This is it for Woody.
-
The head coach that can be the face of the program is important. The personality of the coach will be the personality of the team. Then having the ability to spot and hire a staff that can break down film design a game plan and implement an offense and defense with options. They have to be cohesive with the coaches culture and be able to spot the players that fit that culture and successfully recruit them. Accountability and details + talent

The Most Underrated Winning Players in IUBB History
BA47591 replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I don't know if they were mentioned, but 2 guys I don't think are mentioned enough are D. Thomas and Randy Wittman. Especially Thomas. He played a lot of center before Garrett got there and took mountains of **** from coach but he never left and he was a tremendous college player. -
Quinn Buckner no longer has the room. Pete Yonkman stepped in to be the adult and did everything necessary, in good conscience, to move on from Woody at the end of this season. Somehow with all of this talent our roster looks poorly constructed and uninspired. The early signing period was a major strike against Woody, and the continous Mullins family feedback has made it worse. The Cignetti success hasn't done Woody any favors either. Woody had zero college coaching experience and the culture reflects that. No real team identity and an 82 game sense of urgency. I cross my fingers that we'll use the Cignetti template and move on Josh Schertz in March. We may very well be done playing before he is.

They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Josh Schertz runs the best offense and his guys play hard on both ends. He doesn't have Cignetti swagger but came up a similar path. Sign me up. -
I think we have 7 impactful players. Goode would be 8. Right now it looks like we're doing Goode a favor by letting him play. With a chance to blow a team out and give your team a taste of what that looks like, I think you have to do it. That could've been a 50-25 first half. I like Carlyle but he needs the ball in his hands to get going and that's what he did last year...on a bad team. I think I would start the 2 bigs with Tucker, Galloway and Rice the next game and bring Mgbako and Carlyle in for Balo and Tucker. Play 7 guys, and see how we look, send a message to Mgbako. I'd like to sprinkle in a little bit of Newton if he's available, if not go with 7. Gonzaga we could do the same thing and just match their sub patterns. We're as talented at each position as they are. Now none of this do I see our staff doing.

I think there is a world where we can have success this year and Woody can retire with us on the right track. -

It's more than 7 this year from someone that would know. I believe Mr. Yonkman wants IU to be a consistently elite program and he's in it for the long haul. By giving Woody top 5 resources this year it was making the statement that we're a serious player in the modern game of college basketball. So I 100% believe that we will have a serious coaching staff next year and that coach will have the necessary funds to hit the ground running. It's too much culturally and performance like a bad nba franchise right now. -

If there is a delay, did someone come in with a last second unexpected high dollar bid. No one outside of the listed 4, but maybe Kansas came in with big boy money. -
Trent committed to IU. He's a player that will stick when there's a coaching change.

Chris Beard and his staff would be a monumental improvement over what we have at this time. A partially educated eye can look at the line-up and rotations right now and scout us for the remainder of the year. -

I think there has been a significant effort made by the staff to bring in a center from the high school ranks. It would be nice to see our name mentioned in the conversation with Mouhamad Sylla or with the Bundallo if he does re-open his recruitment. Reneau back, with a high school kid and the best portal player possible at the position would be a strong strategy I think. -

Wisconsin is pretty much Iceland isn't it? Looks like a fit for them. I bet we've tried to get in on Mouhamad Sylla.
