Game Thread: IUBB vs BC Mega | 7:30PM *NOT TELEVISED*
DWB replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
We're up 9 at the half. And it "sounded" like we really weren't in sync that much. -

TJD has 14 pts with under 4 to go 1st half. Tamar is shooting 100% from field. Has 9 points on very limited playing time. -

Glad to see Phin take it to the hole right out of the gate. Got partially blocked by a giant, but TJD puts it back in. -

3 out of 5 starters not on last year's team (Parker never played) -
You may be right, but I remember exhibition games in past years being televised.
-
Looks like they play some version of the 4-out, 1-in as well. And fast paced too. Would be a good couple of games to watch...oh wait...IU didn't make any TV/streaming arrangements.
-
I think a lot of coaches are trying to "emulate" what CTM has going @ IU, with LEO. They're trying to put their own spin on it, but from my perspective, Tom Allen is teaching other coaches what true motivation is all about.
-
Wonder if Fisch will go and broadcast on radio? (I know it's doubtful, but we can hope...)
-
Well this sucks.... "Peach Jam will be closed to the public this year, due to health concerns". What a crock ! I was planning on going to 4-5 sessions to see some of our recruits. I'm only 15 miles away from the site.
-
Me too. I'm anxious to see if the Hoosiers develop some of that "toughness" as a team. Johnson brings some with him, don't know about Stewart, Kopp I think will play tougher for us than at NW. He's got the "boy-ish" look about him, until you see his eyes. I think he'll be a great addition for us. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see if we develop that under Woody.
-
"Futuristic" for us, is a different shade of red... What I'd really like to see is to get back to the visiting team always wearing the white jerseys and home teams stay with team color. Football does it, other BB conf's do it, why not the B1G? Stupid I think.
-
And you're absolutely right. It can be done. But I think it's one thing that really makes IU different than all the rest. But I'm an old fart, and old school. Guess it's really up to Woody, and not us.
-
As a normal BBall player, I can see your point. But at IU I hope Woody continues to add TEAM players. Not guys looking for recognition. If the team succeeds, everybody gets recognition. (some more than others) From a business perspective, if I want to "hire" (thru NIL) an IU player, I'm going for a guy some facial recognition sure, but much more interested in charisma and a well spoken presence...like Tamar, Anthony, Kristian, and oh...maybe TJD. (and I'm sure others too). Now for IU supporters who want to "game the system" to get money to the players in a somewhat legal way, names on the jerseys don't mean anything. Just my 2¢.
-
Prefer the script for "Indiana", rather than the block letters. I also think the IU logo on the shorts is too large. Needs to be ½ that size. And I still like the 5 stars across the back, above the hips.
-
You're right of course. But seems to me the "logical" compromise would be to let non-TV games be streamed, and NCAA games be streamed 1-3 days after the event is over, and the TV viewing is completed. SOP for NCAA evidently is "How stupid can we be?"
-
Which begs the question: "Why doesn't IU have a YT channel? Hmmm?" They have a Twitter channel where videos are posted regularly, why not a YT channel to keep everybody updated, or be able to review games? Jeeze IU, get with it!

2023 General Recruiting Thread (BBall)
DWB replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Didn't know where to put this, so here it is. Peach Jam is only a few weeks away. Granted it's a Nike event, and I'm not up to speed on all the recruits, and which AAU circuits IU recruits are on (Nike, Adidas, UA, etc). I don't have any specific "targets" to watch right now. But if anybody wants to give me some names of guys to watch, I'd appreciate it. I saw TJD a couple of years ago. According to the PR there are 3 divisions: <17, <16, <15. Personally I'd like to focus on the 17 & under, rather than the younger players. And, even though there are 7 courts going at once, you really cannot move around like the coaches do. Seating is very limited, and you essentially have to pick one court and stay there. There are only about 5 rows of bleachers on one side of the courts, and they are packed! -
From Woody's comments, it didn't sound like he's had all that much contact with the team, other than a little 1:1 personal contact in his office. Too bad, as the guys need all the time they can get from Coach on how to personally develop and learn the system. It's ironic that high school kids can play AAU ball all summer, get coaching all summer, and yet college kids have to wait until June 10th to even "see" the coach from on official standpoint.
-
I, like perhaps others, don't really know what a coach can, and cannot do with players during the off season. I know about the physical conditioning stuff, but I'm talking X's & O's, and player development skills. Can coaches "watch" pick up games in open gym? Can coaches select teams for open gyms? Just how far can they go with the team, vs what can they do with individual players?
