Transfer Portal w IU Interest
go iu bb replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Because why would he want to come to IU, right? -
A couple of takeaways from this: 1) Queen obviously doesn't like that Willard is going to Villanova. 2) Villanova basketball started in 1920. To have him be only the 10th coach is impressive.

How sure are we that IU is even in the top 10 of NIL? BYU Louisville, Duke look to all be big spenders. Edit: $4M of the Dyabantes deal is probably from BYU NIL, the rest from other deals not associated with the school at all. Still, that's $7.5M on 2 players. Can't spell "buy" without "BYU." Edit 2: I totally put this in the wrong thread. I meant to put it in the general transfer portal thread since I don't think IU was pursuing him. Oops. -

The last day of the quiet period is tomorrow so the weekend is definitely allowed. I'm just guessing at the answer to your question but, knowing the NCAA, probably not. -
Rabby says things aren't totally dead as far as getting Murphy. He also says it looks unlikely for Moikobu and Capko. I'm not sad at missing out on Capko since I think the next 2 assistants should be black. Diversity is needed in the staff at this point.

Probably visiting this weekend.

Apparently Duke is recruiting him, too. I still don't think Arkansas can be ruled out since he's from there. I agree, it would be great to win this recruitment not just because we'd be getting a good player, but also because of who we beat out for him. -
Congress is getting involved and trying to "help," again. I doubt these make it any further than previous bills. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/2025/04/08/college-athletes-employees-ncaa-house-bill/82993033007/ https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/new-bill-in-congress-would-revolutionize-college-athletics-and-end-the-ncaa

He can get another year. Maybe 2. I doubt he stays at IU if he keeps "playing." He played 4 years but 1 was the COVID year which didn't count. He didn't play this year which means it was a redshirt year so he can get another year. He also had a season with only 8 games played so he might be able to get a medical redshirt on top of that. -
I was in college before YOLO was a thing but one of my friends used the last part of this for basically the same concept.

2025 NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament Discussion
go iu bb replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This is the first I've heard of needles and spoons. Do you have a link to somewhere where he is quoted saying that? The quote above from Crean mentions roach clips which is obviously a much different thing than shooting up. Btw, I'm not in any way defending Sampson or taking any side in this discussion. I'm just curious. -

Were you on the record at the time saying this? I don't recall.

WSJ has IU as the 3rd most valuable basketball program in the NCAA, behind UNC and Duke. They're almost $100M behind those schools in this valuation. The valuation is done of the idea of what would they be worth if they were professional programs being sold. https://www.wsj.com/sports/basketball/ncaa-tournament-march-madness-ncaa-team-value-98c44e14

So, @Scotty R, if coaches don't want to leave P5 schools for other P5 schools, please explain these moves so far just this year: Darian DeVries: West Virginia (B12) -> Indiana (B1G) Drew Adams: Cincinnati (B12) -> Indiana (B1G) Buzz Williams: Texas A&M (SEC) -> Maryland (B1G) Sean Miller: Xavier (Big East) -> Texas (SEC)

You think all that is needed to tell if he's going to be successful or not is the first 1/3 of his first season? lmao
-
Yes, the probably of IU getting a guy like Kelvin Sampson is 100% since they hired him in 2006. If you mean hire another guy like him? Remains to be seen. Hopefully, CDD will be wildly successful so it won't be necessary.

No. Said we might hear something this week but he doesn't seem to know. He did say IU would have 5 assistants instead of just 3 before.
-
In the Monday chat, Rabby said that he's heard there will be plenty of money for paying assistants. It sounds like IU is willing to pay big for good assistants like some schools do.
-
Rabjohns is saying TT has offered Moikobu "a substantial raise and is doing everything it can to try to keep him." Before saying that, he said a mutual friend was confident Moikobu would go to IU. He's still hearing Murphey, Moikobu, and Capko as the potential assistant coaches. No mention of Clark from Tennessee. Edit: From what I could find, Moikobu has been making $250k. Under Woodson, that was about what the lowest paid assistant (Walsh) was making. The other 2 were over $400k.

A couple of these seem to contradict each other. I have seen the $20.5M plenty of times but the 22% I don't recall. So does that Is it the smaller of the two, i.e., 22% up to $20.5M? I've always seen the $20.5M as a cap, this says as a start. I'm guessing that just means for the first year. Also, they say 22% but also 50%. I'm confused. Maybe that 50% includes the scholarships and the possibility of adding more scholarships to sports where there were low caps? The deal also creates a new system where colleges that choose to participate can share up to 22% of their revenue from things like TV deals, ticket sales, and sponsorships with their athletes. Experts think this could start at about $20.5 million per year for each school. Overall, it's expected that colleges will share about 50% of their sports revenue with athletes. This is similar to how professional sports leagues share money with their players.

Probably the same people who were calling him a coke head on twitter.

Peegs posted an update on his recovery. It appears Tucker had surgery on both shoulders. He's just now to the point where he can do a little bit of shooting but not much yet. They're taking it slow since there is a lot of time before next season and they don't want him to reinjure himself by doing too much too soon. CDD says that he'll probably be full go in a few weeks, should be good before the summer.

Scholarship and roster limit of 15. Rabjohns has said something about it decreasing the amount of rev share if over 13 but hasn't explained that and I haven't seen it anywhere else. Also, I don't think this is set in stone yet. It might be dependent on the House settlement being approved. The final day of the hearing is today. I don't think a judgement will be made on that today, though. Probably weeks or months before it becomes final. Edit: I think Rabjohns is confused. I looked more and still haven't seen anything like what he suggests. I think he might be confusing opting in or out of the House settlement. If a school opts in on the settlement (which IU will), the basketball scholarship and roster cap will be 15 and they can give revenue share to the athletes. If a school opts out, the scholarship cap remains 13 and I'm guessing the roster size remains the same too and, of course, they can't share revenue.

Sounds like it's not a done deal with Moikobu from TT either, from what he said.
