That's probably a good way to take it. I feel there isn't really any reason to get one's hopes up at this point in the recruitment, which has just started. When it gets close to a commitment and IU is still in the mix? Maybe then would be a good time. Considering this guy is coming up on his senior season, IU is starting in quite a hole. I imagine in many of these initial recruitments it may be hard to get much traction and there is lots of ground to make up. NIL can help but with that being equal (or close to), then relationships will likely win out. That said, the line you're referring to is really just a fact giving one.

He's getting paid NIL so they won't want to redshirt him. A player willing to redshirt would probably also have to be willing to take little to no NIL for that season.
