To be clear, I probably should have said IU is trying to recruit him, as it's unclear how interested he is. Rabby said that IU is having conversations with him. I take that to mean recruiting. He is in the draft at this time and it's thought he has a huge upside though his stats so far aren't very impressive to me. It looks like some more time before the NBA would benefit him. Hopefully, he spends that time at IU.

Not really a transfer but Rabby says IU is recruiting Neoklis Avdalas of Greece, a 6'8" forward. He's considering college and the NBA draft.

People have been whining for years that the talent in college basketball wasn't what it used to be since any player who's good enough leaves early (as they should). I called it when NIL was first announced that some talent (2nd round/late 1st round) would stay in college because they'd make as much or more by doing so. That's what we're seeing. I don't see it as a bad thing.

There was the portal, sure, but it wasn't the same as what it is now. At that time it was just a more convenient way to do transfers. Basketball players, except grad transfers, did not get immediate eligibility until 2021. So not really comparable to the transfer portal of today.

They're working on an international trip to get some extra practices and games in during the offseason. That should help with early season cohesion.

They've pretty much had IU overrated every offseason recently. But that is probably due to the Woodson Effect. I don't know about other schools.

It's doubtful the coaches would have a better idea of how a judge would rule than any of us. I suspect that coaches will concentrate on guys they know have eligibility left.

There is a lawsuit were a former athlete (or mulitple? I'm not sure) is suing the NCAA for restricting eligibility to 4 years. This guy and a bunch of others are entering the portal in case the NCAA loses. I doubt that happens.

I was mostly referring to the concept of getting mid-major guys that have produced at that level, often making their all-conference teams and sometimes conference POY type rather than just looking at potential that just hasn't panned out yet at any level. 2 of the players were on high major teams last year. His son and Enright, so we have a good idea of what we'll get from them next year, assuming 100% recovery from their injuries. Parker Stewart, the supposed shooter from UT-Martin, was a Miller recruit. Both he and Woodson were poor at evaluating talent. It remains to be seen how good DeVries is at it.

For example, there's another high-major player who signed a substantial NIL contract near the end of the season but subsequently went into the portal anyway, seeking an even bigger deal. One of his coaches told me they were bracing for this, even though pen was put to paper weeks ago. According to this coach, this player now owes the school "the entirety of a contract he hasn't received a dime of yet." "They think we are bluffing," the coach said. "We are 100% holding them to the contract."

It sounds like Rabby is hearing from agents that there might be a bunch of portal entries in before the portal closes. That doesn't surprise me at all.
