They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Because it was a 3 point game with 12 minutes left in the second half when I saw the score as I was scrolling through espn. Not exactly a rarity during cupcake season for Mike Woodson’s ball club. I’ve read the book plenty the past 3 years. I hate watching Mike Woodson basketball. It’s not an enjoyable style. Even the wins are often ugly. Instead, I’m wrapping up work for the week before I head to Columbus to watch the 10-0 Indiana football team play, essentially for a playoff berth. Maybe a new basketball coach next year will have similar success. -

I didn’t watch the game. I’m not posting in the game thread so as to not clutter it for those who did. This is the Fire Mike Woodson thread. The team isn’t short on talent, Woody’s buddies made sure of that. So, an 11 point win against some random team in late November means one thing and one thing only - Mike Woodson being Mike Woodson. I don’t have to watch this specific chapter to know it’s the same book we’ve been reading for the past four years. -

You complain incessantly about people posting in this thread and then you complain when they don’t. Mike Woodson couldn’t coach himself out of a paper bag. Some people love that and others can’t wait for it to be over. -
They love bloviating about the SEC. Tennessee played Chattanooga, Kent St and UTEP and lost to an unranked team. If the SEC played 9 conference games like a real conference so many of these “two loss SEC teams should be in the playoffs” takes would be gone. You don’t see Big 10 teams playing Mercer or UMass in late November. I had no problem with a 12-1 SEC champ Alabama getting into the playoff over FSU last year. You only could pick 4 teams and Alabama’s only loss was to another playoff team. I thought they were clearly better than FSU. But now you have a 12 team playoff. Don’t lose 2+ games and then complain about being left out. I do hope they tweak the formatting, though. A mediocre ACC or Big 12 conference champ shouldn’t automatically get a bye. There’s clearly a P2 in college football with a steep drop off to get to the other conferences, and the playoff should reflect that.

They’re almost certainly going to keep us out if we lose to OSU. Why put a 1 loss Big 10 team in the playoff when you can put in SEC teams with 2-3 “quality losses”?
-
They really should let the computers pick the 12 playoff teams. They don’t even try to come up with arguments anymore. Ole Miss lost to Kentucky and LSU Alabama lost to Vandy. Tennessee lost to Arkansas and needed OT to beat Florida. You could have a 3 or 4 loss SEC team and they’d still argue for putting them into the playoff. How about the SEC play 9 conference games like the other conferences first. https://twitter.com/fandueltv/status/1858887601479929899?s=46&t=LoczziaTWuqlhvyvHGT92A

The media won’t stfu about IU’s “weak” schedule but remains completely silent about Texas’s schedule. Texas’s best win is what, a 3 point road win against Vanderbilt? Texas got crushed at home by Georgia. Swap the uniforms and they’d be talking about how Texas has crushed everyone it’s played. Throw notre dame in too. Notre dame’s loss at home to a MAC team doesn’t keep them out of the playoff, but we should be kept out if we lose on the road to OSU.
-
Lmao at IU being used as the example of a football team that was “bought.” Like half of our 31 transfers came from JMU, and only 6 of them came from P5 schools. We bought so much talent in the portal that we were picked to finish 17th in the conference.
-
Unless we lose by a lot, the committee will have no valid excuse to drop us much. Penn State lost at home to OSU, also hasn’t played anyone else “good,” and barely dropped. I expect some shenanigans because we’re not a football brand, but beat OSU Saturday and there’s nothing they can do.
-
Colorado won’t make it unless they win the conference title game. They’d have 3 losses if they lose. Today clinched only 1 Big 12 team I think. 1 Big 12 team, 1 ACC team, 1 G5 team, ND (unfortunately), and then the Big 10/SEC.

IU would not have paid $20 million to fire Allen last year if he had made a bowl game. And keep commenting on a Fire Mike Woodson thread. You fighting every person with a different opinion is entertaining. Then again, you created your account in mid-February when Woodson was on his losing streak and have made more than 1,100 pro-Woodson posts since then. It’s crystal clear what’s going on here… -

IU football is 10-0 this season because we lost a few extra games at year. You view fandom as complete subservience to Mike Woodson. I view fandom as what’s best for the program long term. Maybe we’ll get lucky and this is Woodson’s last season no matter the result of it. -
I’d rather see Georgia in the playoff than notre dame, but my personal hot take is that notre dame should be viewed as a G5 school until it joins a conference.

Playing a bunch of cupcakes during the early months doesn’t help with that either. Even when I was excited about IU basketball it was hard to lock in until January. -

He’ll really be pissed if his billionaire buddies start writing those checks for Coach Cig instead… Coach Cig is closer to a national title in year 1 with limited NIL than Woodson is in year 4 with endless NIL.. They’ll start realizing who the better investment is very soon. -

Coach Cig is big man on campus now. Woodson can’t be happy about that.. But when one guy prioritizes winning and the other prioritizes wine and cigars, that’s what happens. -

Relative/friend is more likely to me. You don’t defend someone so fervently if you have no connection to them. Especially someone as mediocre as Mike Woodson. -

It’s really not that deep lol. I don’t like Mike Woodson, his teams aren’t very good, and his style of basketball is ugly to watch. More often than not, not watching is a more enjoyable experience. -

He’s talking about me. He seems incapable of understanding that sometimes losing in the short term is better for the program. You don’t have to look any further than IU football to see how true that is. Losing our last three games last year by a combined 10 points last year was the best thing that could’ve happened to IU football. No way Allen gets fired if he wins them to make a bowl, and no way Allen is sitting at 10-0 right now as the IU head coach. Idgaf if some Mike Woodson disciple on a message board thinks that means I’m “not a fan”. -
If Woodson wants to fire every person who questions every moronic decision he makes then that’s fine. If he wants to surround himself with yes men as he has, that’s his decision to make. Hopefully he will not be making those decisions as coach of the IU basketball team for much longer.

“That’s not my job” - Mike Woodson, about every aspect of his job that he doesn’t want to do.
