Class of '66 Old Fart

The pollsters are probably of that "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me" school and with our early season stumbles in Maui and at Duke, it's going to take more than a victory over a Notre Dame team that isn't nearly that tough this year, to get their attention.

Nice soft shot, good timing on his blocks and appears to run the court really well. 

B1G is certainly not as strong as in prior years, but I believe the die has already been cast that CTC is gone barring an absolute miracle and IMO that ain't gonna happen.  As Wayne noted, he's good at losing to bad teams and then there's our typical late season el foldo.  And if he can't pull the miracle this year he certainly won't next year because I believe we're looking at a complete roster makeover - Yogi, Max, Z graduate; JBJ and Troy NBA or more likely overseas; an inevitable transfer out.  John Calipari and maybe Coach K. could win with a boatload of freshmen and sophomores; CTC can't.  He's simply not good enough.

Monmouth defeated Rutgers 73 - 67 and Samford defeated Nebraska 69 - 58.  In theory, our first 2 B1G road games should be relatively easy wins.

Ladies lose to Miami 89 - 75.  Miami started the 3rd quarter on a run and except for a couple of mini-runs of our own, the girls just couldn't get back into the game.  Outrebounded 44 - 31 and gave up 44 points in the paint to Miami.  Buss with 28 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.  Gassion with 19 and Cahill with 15.  Girls had no answer for Miami center Hof who scored 26 and grabbed 14 rebounds.  Ladies play again tomorrow evening.

Make a liar out of me, please.  Ladies have cut the Miami lead to 8.  Plenty of time remaining.

End of 3; down 69 - 55.  Going to be hard to come back I'm afraid.  Miami more athletic and quicker on the court.   Miami with 36 of its points in the paint and out-rebounding IU 34 - 24.  Miami also has 9 steals.  Buss with 22; Cahill with 12; Gassion with 10.

Samford was down against Nebraska 30 - 26 at halftime.  With 6 min. gone in the 2nd half, Samford now up 47 - 36.

Trouble rebounding and giving up too many points in the paint.

At the half, Lady Hoosiers 40 -  39.  Buss with quite a first half:  15 pts.; 4 rebounds; 3 assists

Strong first quarter and the ladies lead the HERicanes  24 - 18.   Buss with 8 pts. and 3 assists.

Not to mention that Butler's leading scorer, Kellen Dunham, was held to 2 pts.  Butler was simply better prepared and didn't back down from Hammons and Haas.  The Dawgs had 15 offensive rebounds and limited PUke to 12 offensive rebounds despite the huge size differential.  Butler also forced 18 turnovers and committed only 8.  A really great win for my second favorite team.

12/19 New Albany defeated Carmel 64 - 58.  Langford the leading scorer with 28.   NOTE:  In the article I saw, it mentioned that this was only the 5th home loss Carmel has had in the last 5 seasons.

12/19 Marion defeated Elwood 92 - 47.  Blackmon with 28 pts. on 11 of 19 from the field.  4 of 8 on 3's.  2 rebs.; 4 assists; 1 TO.

McCutcheon defeated Winamac 81 - 60.  Phinisee the leading scorer with 25.

So we beat ND.  What's the big deal?  Everyone knows we're a football school.  :laugh:

I'm not enamored with JBJ's overall play especially on defense, but yesterday he was our second leading rebounder with 8 total boards of which 3 were offensive rebounds.  And, he only turned it over twice vs. Yogi's 4 and Troy's 5.

And the more controversial comments and issues he raises, the more people talk about him and tune in to hear him.   Sex sells; that's why the tabloids fill the rack at your local supermarket check-out.

Absolutely agree.  You want the team to win and be successful but at the same time, wins like this just put another '+' in the retain CTC column.  Had they not put it together in the last minutes and pulled out a win, the clamor for CTC's head would have become even more deafening given how poorly they played for the biggest majority of the game.

Somehow, this team put it together at crunch time and stole what looked like a sure ND victory.  The unpredictability of this team is maddening, frustrating and a whole bunch of other words you can add.  Still shakin' my head.
