Soapbox Time. Students, get your butts to the games!
Magnanimous replied to Old Friend's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
That's not well advertised at all. Also, most students who live off-campus and use a car to get around normally park at the stadium during the day and take the express bus to the union, but you need to move your car on gameday. Either park at the mall's designated area for these stadium parking students, or find somewhere on a side street. Since they're being told to move their cars for the game, it's unlikely most students who drive to campus would move it for a bit to bring it back to the stadium. -

IU needs to do more to physically assist students getting to games. I lived near the square when I was at IU for undergrad, and unless we wanted to doll out $20+/game for parking, it was quite a hike in the middle of winter to get to games, especially on weeknights when you had to juggle classes. We made 95% of the games, and this was during Crean's first three years, so kudos to us, but the school needs to provide shuttle service from the union, and possibly both the mall and downtown, to get the casual student fans to games. I know it sounds pathetic, but when you factor in that students are usually coming from classes to weeknight games with IU's bag policy, it's a huge hassle to have to go back to your apartment/dorm/house just to drop off your bag to head back two miles to 17th street. They shut down the bus routes around Assembly Hall an hour or so before games, so you can't take traditional campus transportation right to the stadiums on game day. If IU still allowed traditional backpacks into the arena, as well as totes and non-clutch pocketbooks, this wouldn't be as big of an issue for students. The tickets are being bought, so it's not necessarily a lack of interest in the product (though parts of this season have left much to be desired) but a lack of support to assist students in the face of new security policies. I know this is only part of the problem, but when coupled with a lackluster product, it adds to the issue. And like what was already mentioned, this isn't only a problem at IU. -
It's been said all week. This game is about pride. Glad to see our seniors showing up early.

(2018) PG Robert Phinisee to Cincinnati
Magnanimous replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Excited to be bringing him in and watching him lead IU at the point for the next (four) seasons. I'm not going to sort through this whole thread and I'm sure it has been addressed, but how do you pronounce his last name? Is it "fin-is-ee" or "fin-eee-see"? -
On an unrelated note, to just about everything, I came across Blue Chips on TV last night. Always funny to see Bobby Hurley in an IU jersey, and great to see a fantasy team of Calbert Cheaney and Keith Smart playing together against Shaq. Dakich also has a cameo in this scene during a huddle as an assistant, but you can't see him in this clip.

It seems like nearly every successful NCAA football and basketball program between 1988 and 2016 was a colossal mess and corrupt pile of **** led by gutless men. Basketball - UNLV, UNC, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, Syracuse, UConn, UCLA, Kansas, Michigan, Memphis Football - Ohio State, Michigan State, Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Florida, Penn State, Miami, USC, Baylor This coincides with the (lenghty) period of IU's athletic slump. I realize we have the Sampson blemish on our program's resume, but it was a short incident that was more of a reflection of one coach than the program/athletic department as a whole. We certainly got our comeuppance and then some on that, and we've been clean since. I also realize our irrelevancy in basketball was more a result of how the coaching searches were run, but maybe it also says something about this school's unwillingness to play the game to be successful in today's college sports landscape. Hopefully these recent incidents finally changes things for the better.

They're a solid upperclassmen filled team that plays defense and can attack both inside and out. They're top 4 both offensively and defensively on kenpom.

The bad news for Purdue is that I'm going to pick them to win the title. My champion pick has happened once in the last 15 years.

Agreed. The last 20 years of IUBB is a sunk cost. People need to get over it. -

Next year should have improved PG play, more size, a senior Morgan, and better shooters. Our seniors this year play like 15 year olds so the youth factor shouldn't result in much of a drop off between who we're losing and who's coming in. -

No that's on the players. The system is getting them open looks. If they're shooting worse then they need to get in the gym. No one on this staff has done anything to make them shoot worse, such as change their form or like Crean did with Stan Robinson.....make him shoot with his off hand. -

Great defense! Offense needs to settle into something in the half court. -

Wasn't that on MLK weekend? The campus cleared with the Monday off. -
We need to win at least 6 of our remaining conference games and I think we may get in. @Illinois, @Rutgers, Minnesota, Illinois , @Iowa, and @Nebraska are all winnable. If we win one of the tough three coming up after the @Illinois game we can afford to drop one of these and an end of the season loss to OSU. If we don't win any of those three, we'll likely need to win five of those six and also end the season beating OSU. It's certainly doable, especially since we play a lot of weaker teams on the road and have our big games mostly at home, but obviously nothing should be taken for granted with this squad. Going 11-7 in the conference would be huge and likely garner at least a 5th place finish, but it'll be the quality win argument being held against us, especially if we don't hit 20 wins prior to the BTT. It should be an interesting stretch to wrap up the season. If we get our share of wins, the @Nebraska game may be the biggest game of the year.

Crean gets a 5* star center and has him play behind the arc half the time..... As talented as that class was, as I pointed out before other threads, only one player staying beyond two years. Crean's best class was 2010, Vic and Will, and he didn't even intend for it to be.

Freshmen tend to not win the whole thing without some quality upperclassmen sprinkled in. I'll wait before declaring next year's Duke team to be anything more than this year's Duke and Kentucky teams.

Would Archie Leave For Another School?
Magnanimous replied to IUrocker's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Not to mention very few coaches last in the NBA, even the marginally successful ones. Stevens' tenure in Boston was a special case given the conditions on which he would take the job, but for most coaches their leash is very short. Making the second round of the playoffs is no guarantee of keeping your job in many circumstances. -

Same with your posts. What are you honestly expecting from this team this season, especially on the road @MSU? Why do you even watch this team when you obviously hate all things IU? You've ruined at least two IU fan sites with this nonsense. -

PG play has been pathetic. Stupid turnovers, not getting the offense in motion, and zero bball IQ. -
Would Archie Leave For Another School?
Magnanimous replied to IUrocker's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
By the time he would have gotten IU to the level you're talking about in this scenario, I think both UNC and Duke would have already found their coaching replacements anyway. UCLA may likely be open in the next few years if Alford doesn't improve his March record, but other than the prospect of living in LA that may not even be a top 10 job anymore. I'm not remotely worried about Louisville at this point for the foreseeable future given the circus down there. Kentucky is Kentucky, but who knows when Cal is going to hang it up at this point. IU can outbid Kansas with Big 10 money and the new Fox deal, and within the next 5-10 years conference realignment may leave Kansas out to dry. Too much unpredictability surrounding these programs and the greater college basketball landscape to even rationally think about this. On top of all this, the one and done rule is likely on its way out as a result of the Adidas scandal. Adam Silver even said as much following it. So there will likely be more parity returning to college basketball in the future, and what separates a top job from a second tier gig will shrink. Bottom line, there isn't anything Archie can find elsewhere he doesn't already have at IU. If he's as successful as we hope he will be, the checkbook will open and he won't leave unless for a very personal reason outside of IU's control. He'll have full systems go at that point, so it wouldn't make much sense to start over somewhere he doesn't have the job security or recruiting ties. -

Have to wonder how much the Nassar story is hanging over the school, and to what degree it could impact fan morale in regards to the environment we're playing in. -

Fantastic defensive effort tonight. We're going into a tougher stretch of the schedule, but hopefully tonight will give them some confidence going into the meat of the conference slate. Tied for 3rd in the conference right now, so congrats to Coach Miller as well.
