Indiana vs Ohio State Senior Night Game Thread

He's not quite there yet, but Smith is going to be a lot of fun going forward once he adds a little more to his game. -

Always liked him. Not the smoothness guy, but I think he is a straight shooter. -

They just look better than us tonight. We are playing hard, but... -

Maybe, but I just don't see him as that guy. -
(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

Maybe, not likely but, after the Louisville thing he has been waiting to see what else might be uncovered. -
The sad thing for me about all of this is that, at its inception, the game was pure. It's nothing close to that now. Admittedly, I'm old and probably out of touch but I miss that purity, even if it was only an illusion.

Archie might be smarter than we give him credit for. After all, he waited for the right opportunity to move up. I don't think we need to worry, but his brother does concern me a little bit.
-
I wonder if that might be a real possibility as this mess gets bigger and bigger. I guess that would be up to the university presidents, right?

With everything that is coming to light, the NCAA looks more and more impotent and incompetent. They are the ones who have lost institutional control.
-
I honestly don't see how any of this can be cleaned up without a major reset of college athletics or at least football and basketball. Is there anything that would prevent the major conferences from withdrawing from the NCAA and forming their own sanctioning body? They make enough money with television networks that it might work. As we have seen over and over, the NCAA has very little power when institutions push back.

Not sure about this part. I can see them taking their chances and challenging, stalling, and who knows what else if the NCAA comes after them.
-
It takes the NCAA forever to resolve one case. There is no way they can deal with anything this pervasive. More likely, this will lead to a rewriting of the rule book that, much like phone-gate, will make some of this stuff go away. I just don't see much happening given, as so many posters have pointed out, the amount of money involved.

Too big to allow to fail! That sounds strangely familiar.

Game Thread: Indiana at Nebraska 9est BTN
cthomas replied to yogisballin's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
We have been playing shorthanded since Jones left and Davis went down. They may not have been great but they were additional rotation bodies. The wear and tear has to be taking a toll at this point. The guys just need to suck it up for a few more games. -
In my opinion, Indiana has more in common with the central time zone than the eastern. I would be OK with moving the to the central. And daylight savings time is one of the dumbest things ever devised. Only an idiot would think they could cut a foot off of the top of a blanket and sew it to the bottom and think they had a longer blanket. Or something like that.

As disappointing as this season has been at times, the long view for the program is very promising. I just finished watching CAM's post game presser and the guy gets what it takes to win. He was concise, direct, and obviously angry with how his team played. I've never found myself wondering, unlike in the past, what the hell I just heard. He knows basketball and doesn't try to over complicate it. We are truly at the beginning of a new era of Indiana basketball. -
(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

One kid is a hometown kid with a long relationship with Drew. One is a possibly close friend of the first kid. The other I know nothing about. All I said was that it was plausible in this instance. All I have seen is innuendo and suspicion based on it being Vanderbilt and not someplace like UK. I never made a statement that Drew was or was not clean. I still believe in the presumption of innocence until evidence of guilt is presented. Everyone, however, is entitled to his/her opinion. -

Given the context of the three five star kids it's plausibly legit. Now, if Vanderbilt suddenly becomes a destination for top ten recruits year after year, they will have my attention. -

I don't have any love for Vanderbilt, but I'm not sure what Coach Drew has done to be so hated other than going after some of the same kids. I've seen allegations that he is "dirty" but I haven't seen any evidence other than he is assembling a good recruiting class. I guess i question whether he is doing anything that we wouldn't expect our coach to do to get the best players available. If both schools weren't after Langford, would we care what Coach Drew was doing? -
I have to think his coaching prior to coming to IU was quite poor. CAM has mentioned more than once that Clifton is still learning the game. YIKES! Contrast that to constantly commenting on Al's high basketball IQ.

That, and relationships matter whether we want to admit it or not. CAM has been in contact with him for less than a year. Getting to know and trust a coach takes a bit of time. Coach Drew has been building his relationship for a much longer period.
