#1 INDIANA FOOTBALL 2025 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
cthomas replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I find this disturbingly funny. -
Can we just take them all?
-
We have a lot of guys who were recruited in the last three years who may not be good enough to play now. Nothing wrong with them seeking a better spot for them. That's the problem with a rapidly improving roster.
-
I think those years happened when Painter was trying to be someone he's not. He course corrected and they've been a problem ever since. He usually gets a lot out of what he has. I hate all things Purdue but I think Painter is a good dude and if went anywhere else, I wouldn't mind seeing him win a championship. Just NEVER at Purdue.

Cignetti extending his recruiting reach...

I'm more confused than ever. I think I'll just pretend this never happened. -
Cignetti extending his recruiting reach...

Absolutely! Why did this happen and who was responsible for bringing her to Bloomington. I'll be shocked if she finds her way into a Pace Car at the Speedway next year. Not exactly Penske corporate material. -

I'm assuming that Cig had to sign off on her getting her grubby little paws on our Natty. -
Cignetti extending his recruiting reach...

Well, that was unexpected! -
Pepper spray is an escalator at the very least. In the current landscape of college football, the optics are even more amplified. Those investing huge sums of money in the program probably don't like this kind of publicity. Hoping for the best outcome for everyone.

Sounds like he is guilty of poor choices, at least concerning women.
-
Even without charges I could see Cig taking some kind of action just based on the circumstances.

(2028) QB Lukas Prock to Indiana

If Cignetti rolls him out as a starter as a freshman, then he has NFL talent from day one. Not usually the way Cig operates. -

Bullet dodged. -

Cignetti has also said that the market for high school kids is getting ridiculous. I also believe he stated on a podcast that what is happening with NIL is not sustainable. -

He's been told by multiple programs how good he is and that's a lot to handle at his age. And I'm sure most of those programs are telling him he is starting from day one. And a few months ago when some were predicting a commitment to IU was imminent I saw a social media post allegedly from him denying it in a pretty over the top language. I understand that I am old and young people today are different. The human brain isn't fully developed until about 25 so kids don't always think before they act. I hope he finds the right fit and is successful. But even Cig has said that high school kids are harder to accurately evaluate. All I was implying was that patience is a virtue for anyone playing for coach Cignetti. If Sales is good with that, welcome aboard. -

Agree 100%. This whole bidding war thing for high school kids is distasteful to me. He may be a great talent but not worth a disproportionate share of our available funds. I also worry about his expectations and maturity level. Both things that could be problematic. At the end of the day, I fully trust what Cignetti decides to do. -

Bottom line on all of this is to let Cignetti run the program. IU played against, and won against, teams with superior rosters on paper. We have already seen an influx of better talent entering into year 3. I'm perfectly content to let Coach Cig work his magic with what he has at his disposal. -
We often forget that these gifted athletes are also just people under the surface. I don't know anything about his particular situation but I do have a lot of experience with mentally ill people. Often in situations like his mental instability is at the heart of the problem. Throwing money at it only helps in the short term. It does nothing to help the underlying issues. Mental illness is a hard problem and we don't deal with hard problems very well in this country. I hope he gets the kind of help he needs.

Agree all day on Ponds. But, I think we enough talent back there to compensate for his loss with the development that this staff is becoming famous for. Plus I think Haines is the best in the business and will scheme what we need. Part of that is that I think our d-line is going to be even better this year. Opposing qbs aren't going to have all day to find receivers down field. Even though we lost a lot of important pieces on defense, I think the sum of what we have on the roster is going to be even better. Honestly, I worry more about the offense than the defense.
-
But F1 is a technical series.
-
If Harris is who I think he is, we should be fine. We have a lot of talent and the best staff in the country to develop it.

#1 INDIANA FOOTBALL 2025 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
cthomas replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
After nearly 70 years of distaste for all things Purdue, I take immense pleasure in the recent turn of events in football. For years, Purdue has promoted themselves as the "cradle of quarterbacks" and Cignetti has snatched that from them. Crushed their soul. Maybe they can be the "cradle of mediocre quarterbacks" going forward. -
IUFB Recruiting and Transfer Portal Updates
cthomas replied to Lebowski's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Agreed. That this is where we are as a society is the most sad. That there are people outside of the IU community who think it's OK to come to campus and start shooting over a disagreement is insane. Young people should be able to celebrate a university tradition and feel safe while doing it. I don't know where we go from here but something has to change.
