  1. Crean's post game comment about how he could do a better job at communicating with the team regarding the score and time is very telling to me. First, it shows he is not a very good coach. A game is on the line and the only reason you need a head coach and he fails miserably. Second, he admitted he made a mistake. I see that as raising the white flag since his normal excuses as needing to see the tape or what did you think werent used. Another collapse which looks to be closing in should punch his ticket to the Mac conference. If Glass fails to deliver, he should be sent with Crean.
  2. This along with 2 hour pregame walk thrus will kill a team this late in the year. With all the experts around Crean, why are we even discussing this? Hearing this plus his post game comments about him admitting he didnt pay attention to the details of the game are inexcusable and great examples why Penn St beat us.
  3. TB was open most of the possessions and never got a sniff. He was open so much I quit complaining as it just wasnt happening. Plus, only Hartman knows how to feed the post anyways like that hasnt been taught. Just very bad on all fronts both on and off the floor. The zone to protect TB when getting his third was all on coach. Sitting on 2 timeouts then using them after it was over. God forbid we get our but kicked by a terrible Penn St team and not use all of your timeouts. Playing so low after so high same old routine much like late season tanks. This team is too talented and deep to ever lose to Penn St.
  4. TB and OG play above the rim and just big advantages. Shot blocking takes me back a few years to compare.
  5. and play defense. He took a charge is a good example he can do this
  6. Really happy at what OG has become among all the others. Just good blocking shots with TBgives us a new dimension.
  7. Best ever run I have seen of the Tom Cean era. Keep it up.
  8. They couldnt stop TB down low. Sad thing is our players dont even understand what is or how to make a post pass. You never see a dribble to get in position to make a pass and this has been a trademark of a Crean coached team. Defense just horrible. We play man to man tight with no concept of help defense unless its to hedge on a screen where we get beat for a layup. The 2-3 zone actually slowed down the O'phers incredible offense. We suck so bad at man to man maybe we should use it more often.
  9. It's a smart decision that OG needs more minutes and less for Troy. It's all about the D plus rebounding and blocking shots.
  10. BS charge call on Yogi. I agree and I think it's a respect thing. Were not getting any so we need to earn it. Everyone on the team staff included.
  11. Troy starts until the first stupid turnover or the first matador defense. The play right before the end of the first half had to be the worstdefensive effort i have ever witnessed of an Indiana player. He just watched a player drive right by him without any effort to stop, delay, or even whiff at him. As talented a player as he is, don't tell me he can't play defense. It takes heart and if he wont do it, he needs to sit. We have two other freshman more than willing to do the intangibles it takes to win. Him bringing the ball up the court is all on Crean though. His turnovers are courtesy of the green light Crean has given him.
  12. God bless you, Keith! I remember how a lot of people thought how could 2 juco kids come in and help the program? Well, almost 30 years later we are still waiting for 2 more just like them.
  13. Just bad offense. Yogi not facilitating and has 0 assists. Were 1 on 5 offense and have forgotten about TB all the while Happ has used us. Troy refuses to play defense; sorry he needs to sit with that effort. We should be pressing to speed up the game instead of letting them pound it underneath every possession. We are easily a better team; we just need to play like it. We have gone away from what has gotten us undefeated in league play.
  14. JB's absence has allowed the emergence of OG and more PT for Hartman whom both happen to be better defenders and team players. It's not a knock on JB; it's a fact the team began playing better defense and team ball after he got hurt. Obviously it's not the only reason. Yogi is facilitating first, the team is sharing the ball more, and there is more focus on Bryant on the offensive end. We also have developed good depth coming into the year I had doubted losing Hanner and Holt. The me first attitude is gone and this team is really fun to watch.
  15. All of these stats truly amaze me. They're right at your fingertips and I dont see how any successful coach these days arent using them in depth. It's almost like why have a head coach? The feel of the game is still important , but Im sure there's a stat for that also. Wasnt BS a leader in bringing these stats into play? At any rate, I would guess the great coaches have to plan for how these stats will be used game planning against them and then countering. Great stuff.
  16. I have toned down my rhetoric based on the team's play the last few weeks. Crean should get the credit for this play just as much as the blame for most of his Indiana career record. While some have said he would not get an extension even after a NC run, the utmost importance of this feat would lead me in the other direction. Afterall, that's what we all want with good student athletes leading the way. But anything short of a very deep tourney run and no late season pukes, and I will be back to where I have mostly been. Crean has his biggest chance on the biggest of stages. It's now or never, and I will hope and wish him the best to get it done. For the glory of old IU!
  17. We're hard to beat playing unselfish, team ball with good defense. The only thing that would have been more satisfying was if Weber was coaching the Illini. Lots to build on after this win. We just have to keep building on these sucesses and the staff needs to start backing off the practices for a late season push. Excellent game tonight.
  18. Jok as a 6'6" two guard with a 6'9" Uthoff & Uhl, adding 7'1" Woodbury is a lot of size. Our best chance to win is speeding the game way up and keeping the ball out of Gesell's hands. They will go early and often at TB. Your better teams and coaches know he has been a big part of our success and limiting his minutes hurts our chances.
  19. Hartman would get posted up from the get go but still may be our best option. Iowa will look to get TB in foul trouble early as with most of the better teams we face. Max has played really well for us,but will be overmatched with Iowas size. Size is our biggest weakness which Iowa and Purdue will exploit. We have to find ways around this; pressing would be an excellent option against both of these teams.
  20. Iowa is skilled and deep. The big comeback against Purdue on Rick Mount day was as impressive as their dismantling of MSU on their home court. You rarely see an Izzo coached team get beat like that at home. Iowa has great play at all positions and Utupf is arguably the best player in the Big. We have no answer for him. Who's gonna guard him with that size? Troy or Hartman? Their point is really good and under appreciated. This is easily McCaffrey's best team at Iowa and is put togethervery well.
  21. Things look different with this team than at least the last couple of Indiana teams. First they are playing better defense plus better team ball. Bryant seems to be providing the ledership the others team lack. He demands tough play and expects it from others. I think this has helped Yogi also become more of a leader and OG provides consistent and smart play. While the level of competition will be racheted up very soon, being competitive with Iowa may be too much to ask. I would be happy to see close games against Maryland, Purdue, and MSU; and we could very well beat any if the games are close. Crean also seems different; it's almost like he is trying to stay out of his own way. This is a great thing. If he can keep his eyes on the game and keep the frenetic sideline pacing down, he may actually see the game flow make better substitutions than what we have seen up to now. I hope he is scaling back practices and his famous game day walk thrus. He only needs to see how his previous Indiana teams have failed in Feb and March to know he needs to go in a different direction. Lots to feel good about. I will remain positive for now based on our play against the gophers. Illinois can either make us take a step forwards or back; hopefully its in the right direction.
  22. Any win in the Barn is big, even against an o'fer Gopher. Two big reasons for our change for the positive this season; defense and playing hard. If you play good defense and play hard, you can still win games when you dont play yur best. Plus, you can win the close ones. The huge discrepancy in fouls/FTA on paper looks like a loss. Our playing hard combined with tough defense was the difference. I was proud of the product today.
  23. When Yogi facilitates, we can be really good. When he hogs the ball, we can be really bad. Bryant is such a mismatch that its just a head scratcher he isnt option 1,2 and 3. Lastly, if the rest of the team played as hard and smart as OG, we could go a long way. He needs starter minutes.
  24. Good teams will go right after Bryant from the tip off, get him in foul trouble, then have their way with us underneath. They will also give Yogi every chance to shoot his way into me first basketball. Iowa will absolutely kill us. I will say this would be a great year to get it done as the B1G is as weak as I have seen in a long time. Wisconsin is horrible; no wonder Bo bolted just like Spurrier. I see us as the 5th best team if we continue to beat who we should. Today starts that. Troy stepping up is the key but he needs to facilitate off the offensive boards and free throw line extended down. The freshmen's play has also been the difference this year; it's not JB's fault. They just happen to play better D and team ball.
