You are judged by your flagship programs and Glass has failed miserably. He gets to bite his tongue while Crean can't even get to .500 in his career Big 10 games. Many have gone the same route and you only need to look at Texas football as a great example. Glass is responsible for the contract good, bad, or indifferent. I have zero faith he will do the right thing based on his quotes, and I certainly don't think he should be in charge of the next hire. I would have the president involved although his Aussie roots probably proclude him from really understanding what Indiana basketball is all about. At least he's not named Myles Brand though lol.

The contract was outlandish and ignorant to many including myself. Just take a look at Roy Williams latest contract as a contrast. His latest inked him up until 2020 and was finalized in 2015. So you have a twice national championship coach, one of the winningest in the game; and he gets an additional 5 years. Now you have Crean who hadn't even taken us to a final four get 10 years? That is insane and totally out of line even compared to one of the best in the game. This falls on Glass, and Creans buyout has kept him from making a move that should have been done three years earlier. Also, I believe it's short sighted to say he is responsible for Cook Hall or the Assembly Hall renovations. They would have happened without him. Show me any coach in college basketball with a contract like Creans; especially on with a little over .500 win percentage. This is Glass's baby thru and thru and he needs to fall on his sword for signing off on it.

Are you familiar with the contract he gave Crean? For accomplishing what? Did you read my quotes from Glass? He actually believes Crean is good at X's and O's, and he stated it publicly like he is some basketball savant he is not. His deep involvement and fandom of Crean does not give him the impartiality to see thru his rose colored glasses. Also, his handling of Wilson is inconsistent with someone I want running our athletic programs. He needs to go back into law and become the true Crean fan he is.

He signed off on Creans ridiculous contract, and he gave Wilson and extension knowing there were behind the scenes issues later leading to his resignation. Personally, I think a better vision should have lead to a new Assembly Hall that seats more with better viewing for all in attendance. I posted his quote only to prove his fandom of Crean which blinds him to the bigger picture. If Crean is let go or moves on, I have zero confidence he will get the next hire right.

Fred Glass’s. “I’ve seen the guy up close,” says Glass. “Seen the way he breaks down film and coaches these guys, both on individual skills and strategy. I’ve believed since the beginning that he’s not only a great recruiter, which people seem to acknowledge. He’s not only a great motivator, which people generally acknowledge. He’s not only a great developer of talent, which I think his naysayers grudgingly acknowledge. He’s a great X’s-and-O’s coach. I didn’t need this year to have that confirmed for me.” Above are exact quotes from Glass a couple of years ago when Crean was again on the proverbial hot seat. Tell me this guy gets it or if we should have faith he will do the right thing for this university. He is stuck in his fandom of Crean and should be canned along with him. Even if he let Crean go, I have serious reservations he would make a great hire. Glass needs to go!

I would also feel great about him being our next coach. If you give him the resources available at Indiana, he would succeed and may be our next Bob Knight. I would list him at the top or near top of my B candidates. My A candidates are Stevens, Donovan, and Hoiberg.

I have witnessed 28 years of SC basketball now, so I will give my $.02. Martin is a good man although his ethics have been questioned while coaching high school ball in Miami. He gave his players $. He has been suspended for his sideline abuse and profanity, which occurred a year or two ago. He's a good coach and has run off talented players who had off court issues normally to the tune of 2-3 per year. He got spanked by UK this year and recently lost a 4 OT game at home to the powerful UGA Bulldogs. He has never lead the Cocks to a NCAA birth although they should make it this year. He won at Kansas State with Huggins players and has never recruited the Midwest. Bottom line...He would be a huge upgrade to our current, but way down my list of others. I would put him as a C candidate.
