  1. Does Lyle have a criminal record or past experiences with lawlessness? I know he walked out on his high school team in a game but other than that what are his other crimes? To me it seems the ones here who don't want him are the same ones cheering and singing praises for members of our current team with a dui and illegal consumption convictions. If you're willing to give them a second chance, how can you not give a first chance to a recruit that 1. Can flat out play 2. Has not committed any crimes to my knowledge? Please explain all of those in the camp that say no way to giving him a chance? Maybe you are aware of other pending charges against him I am not privy to.
  2. Up to now, Nover was much better than Hanner. If Hanner proves he can play more than 5 minutes without foul trouble, he will have improved greatly. Having Henderson on that team helped is a huge understatement since we have no one anywhere near close to Alans scoring or rebounding. That team was solid top to bottom and Nover and Hanner not good comparisons imo. Their height comparable but nothing else.
  3. That's good to know. I didn't watch any of the games and have seen limited highlights. Based on our personnel, I think we will be forced to play a zone although I don't think it needs to be 2-3 exclusively. Troy out top on some type of trapping defense with Hanner and Devin down low may also find some success. This gets Troy out on a break where he excels in transition.
  4. This is what I remember not any alley oops. Troy and Hanner are such phenomenal athletes how do you not incorporate these alley oop game changing dunks into our game plan? Coach, please put these uber athletes in a position to be successful and guess what? You will be successful. Let Yogi facilitate the break and offense and pass first. Don't just let him juke and shoot the three ball cause that's what all the other coaches want him to do. Call Boeheim and learn a 2-3 zone to protect Hanner and the fact we are woefully undersized; then you may be able to play against it also. Give Rick Pitino a call to learn the full court press; no he won't help since we're playing them. Check that. Get old tapes of Pitino's UK teams or Norms Arkansas teams to speed up play to not exploit our lack of size. You can do this and Btown Banners is here to help.
  5. My recollections of Troy's big dunks are coming off acrobatic offensive rebounds although I'm sure he may have had a few driving to the basket. I don't think Hanner had more than 2-3 tops all year and don't recall any being alley oops, but I may be mistaken. One would think with Hanner's athleticism, why we aren't throwing him 3-5 alley oops per game. Back screens, high-low options. He's been way underutulized considering his skillset so maybe coach gets better at that this year too. We can always hope.
  6. That sounds great, but has Yogi ever thrown an alley oop assist in his two years at IU? I really can't think of any. I think you may be on to something though with him facilitating more and shooting less.
  7. From the limited videos I have seen he has the athletism of Henderson but not the size. He also reminds me of Daryl Thomas from the 87 team the way he pivots and gets position underneath the basket. He looks to have a better shot then Thomas so more in line with Henderson. A combination of both I would be more than happy as both were huge IU players. Plus his focus on academics fall in line with both of the above mentioned. I could also say Scott May but Juwan has more hops although him being sneaky around the basket I find similarities along with size. Good comparisons nonetheless.
  8. Welcome to the IU family Juwan! Academics and athletics go hand in hand here. I'm proud to say we are still a university where the student in student athlete actually means that and you will get an education second to none. And, the Hoosier women are second to none. Plus, if you happen to have an interest in the NBA you will find not only our former players there but many past players in the form of coaches and personnel to help you along the way. Great choice for your future, and the absolute best fans/alumni in the basketball world will be cheering you in your quest to hopefully add your name to the other greats that have worn the IU jersey. Please get us #6!
  9. Love your new username. You should give me the proper credit though. Or at least a foot note otherwise wouldn't it be considered plagairism?
  10. We have no schollies to offer based on what we have now. Guess your ok with Creaning the four above you mentioned since it serve your purpose of not actually having to admit what's really going on which is running players off. You view the oversigning as someone ready for the NBA. JB2 really ready? And how many does Crean want to add? Your man crush for for him has blinded you when you actually believe what he's doing is right or works. Instead of having mature players like Roth, Creek or Abell; he sends them packing where leadership would make up for his lack of coaching just like Davis. But no let's just keep adding 6 new players and never have the senior leadership. Let me ask you this #1 Crean apologist, how many seniors will we have this year? Keep talking about banners or our 2-3 zone that's gonna work this year.
  11. One thing is true. If he doesn't work out Indiana is never out of schollies. We have 6 this year and also 2012 so finding room is not a problem. No need for balanced classes when you have no seniors. Maybe we should go the baseball route and have 35 players on 1/3 schollies each since they only get 11 or 12 full ones between them. Then you can run off all the freshmen who didn't get to play or who won't cut it, make all decent Jr.s go pro, and overecruit with Juco players for the rest of the remaining players. Creans system would be perfect for this. Or just go back in time before freshmen eligibility and start a JV feeder program. Hey, I may be on to something here. Some times you have to think outside the box when you can't land the big recruits.
  12. Understatement of the year. When you can't have former players and even ones that have coached with you at their alma mater get behind you, what do you have? Example 1 is the absolute lying by former UNC players and their sham courses trying to deflect blame from Coca Cola Roy. At IU you have a former B1G all time leading scorer leaving the staff and a top five lottery pick saying he could have done more and allegedly steering players away from the program. We are coming to a climatic end folks.
  13. Crean obviously doesn't win enough or win big enough. I bet I know who wins this argument. And they didn't participate in the game thread tonight.
  14. Which interview was it? There may be hope for this coach afterall. He changed his sub patterns after getting boo'd by 17,000 faithful. Now changing his game plans based on great statiscal analysis from one of our own from Btown Banners. If he would only consult with us on some of these project centers, we all would have told him to get Mcgary or Hammons. Another suggestion, dump the 3 x 5 cards with plays and sub patterns and just watch the game. Also, only get out on the court to trip Ted Valentine not trap one of your own players. Sorry sunshiners, I couldn't resist. I still hope we win out and get to dance.
  15. Agree. Then why isn't our focus every game to play to that strength? I'm watching the replay of ohio State and we aren't playing that way. But Ohio State could nt have played much worse and we hit outside shots.
  16. I can only speak for myself, but coaching is how I judge him. I don't think you would find myself or anyone else even mentioning the obvious mannerisms, etc if he would have hung a real banner. Look at what we put up with Knight and all his shenanigans, but he got a pass because he was a great coach. The skeptics will always be there based on our performance on the court. Afterall, we are Indiana fans and can't be fouled by the actual product. With that said two great wins so my compliments to him on those. I think its too late though.
  17. Much better analyzer than coach. Much better coach than player.
  18. You're right its not a treat. Its a walk in the park. On a sunny day knowing any offensive adjustment that you will have to make will not be countered. Beating Indiana is as simple as blanketing Yogi as soon as he gets past half court and double teaming Noah anytime he gets the ball free throw line extended and under. To make sure Yogi misses more than he makes, press him so that he has to work to get the ball up the court. He will be tired and start missing shots after halftime. Its a broken record on that yet Crean hasn't figured out a way to beat this.
  19. If Crean ever runs out of schools like Davis is doing, he would be a hell of a politician. Always blaming someone else and never admitting what he knows. Plus it would be easy to turn the coach speak into the required political jargon.
  20. I would agree that maybe half of his teams have been good in transistion, but when you can't take care of the ball you lose the benefit of running. Plus, if you are a running team you would want to speed the game up no matter who you play, but I rarely remember a Crean coached Indiana team ever committing to this. If you think you know what you do best, you do it. Crean was thought of as a guard/ wing type offensive coach coming into Indiana, and yet we are in year 6 with no viable shooters other than our point. Its like he plays to his teams weaknesses rather than strengths which is why I say it is systemic and cannot be changed. Time to fish and stop cutting bait.
  21. Six years is a long enough time frame for any coach to carve his niche on winning. Whether it be Knight with defense and in game coaching or planning, most long term coaches at one school hang their hat on something. This is where I feel Crean falls woefully short. I just can't find one area where I can say all of his teams exhibit excellence. Sampson for all of his weaknesses, his teams were tough and played hard. Tarkanian ran most teams into the ground. All of Creans teams seem to be soft, disinterested, and if things are not going well tend to not be able to turn it around. I think they mirror him. This is a systemic problem that one more year will not solve regardless of the talent. See last year. If the $ is there now, why wait? But I would suggest you have the top candidate to replace him already agreeing in principle. How do you do that with no contact clauses, etc? You have middlemen like Eddie Fogler contact coaches agents to see if there is interest. Then go from there. The last thing we would need is a repeat of the last "search committe" that failed miserably. Texas football search also comes to mind.
  22. I remember him dismissing some for questionable behavior (Tommy Baker, Roberson), but do not recall any being arrested. I may be wrong. Can you tell me who those players were?
  23. My absolute favorate picture of Sheehey. Didn't he get a technical for it?
  24. With all due respect, I think you are flat out wrong with your last statement. Boeheim won his only championship with Melo being a one and down. Plus, Coach K is now in the mix with these kids as well as his best player this year. If you don't sign them, somebody else will and beat your a$$. You have to sign and recruit the best players available regardless if they are one and done.
  25. I was thinking this same thing and how many years did that last? Granted, he had a huge drinking problem which only sped up the inevitable. As far as our situation, I say we cut our losses and buy him out. Nothing but good things to say except come game time. The beauty and/or curse of coaching at IU is you have the most passionate and knowledgeable basketball fans anywhere. Its beautiful when your winning and a curse when everyone in the stands can see how horrible your actual coaching is. You just can't fake it here; the coach speak bs doesn't work. When your fans understand more of what's going on in a game than the man getting paid 2 mil a year, isn't that a referendum on his tenure? Crean not only has lost this team but also our alumni and fans. Instead of just booing his sub patterns mid game, we are actually booing the product at the end of them too. And I have never heard that even during the mike Davis years.
