  1. He’ll be a media darling. If he ups his game it’ll pay off. Getting real time in the Big leagues is no easy task. He was likely gonna G League his way into playing time. Might as well mature in college hoops.
  2. Consistently puts up great games. Really looking forward to this one.
  3. Minnesota is smart. Took 2 Dusty May guys this portal. Winters Grady and a 7’2” behemoth. They will never be B1G top end but they won’t be rollovers either.
  4. I’m not convinced they will be mid. Sometimes names get all the hype. But Cox, Harris, Mayer, Benter, Jacobsen. They can all play. They have a little guard that resshirted that Painter is really high on. Said he would lead scrimmages in scoring this season even. Antoine West, I believe. They will be well coached and guys will be better than their name implies. But man, I hope they fall down a few notches.
  5. It might, but I think we will aim for 3 freshman knowing how things work. Plus our practice players on scholarship in spots 11-13 will likely include some 1 n dones either through eligibility or otherwise.
  6. Agreed. Only need juice and momentum if trying to win recruits with equal dollar offers. Which is exactly why the only path this year was to boost the budget. (And hopefully start to prove concept). Glad we boosted that NIL to compete despite the lack of juice. Seemed like the powers that be figured that out by building a mid major All Star team the year prior.
  7. But the 11-13th spots filled do not and probably should not be filled with that as the mindset. guys should still compete for playing time. 1-13. You fill with guys that meet a need and let the best play. In order to get that on a team that already has good players, maybe you need to go a different route. euro, midmajor, juco, whatever. find some talent and encourage competition.
  8. so very thankful they've done so. Both programs have needed it. It feels like basketball's only chance. Its most schools only chance. I think the sport probably met its near max this offseason on what teams will pay. I don't see it jumping significantly from here. My gut told me Whitten and Dolson were going to do everything they could to set DeVries up. Last year didn't go the way I expected, so that was odd. But thankfully we are committed.
  9. Hysterics said today it was high 4’s. And roster could near 20 in total although probably short of that.
  10. Agree with this. I like 8 or 9 man rotations. Hated when would woody would platoon or try to run 10. However, an open competition for those spots from 13 capable members will yield a better team than intentionally filling spots 11-13 with intentionally lesser talent. Try to find the Juco kid that might pop, or a Foriegn kind with attributes or something because you never know. Wagler from Illinois is a good example of ‘you never know’. Find players and fill the spots let practice figure out your best.
  11. Rabjohns doubled down today on Hoosier Hysterics. Said the 11th spot is a backup big and spots 12 and 13 are practice players that they expect to be better than Walk ons. I guess we find out how locked in Rabjohns is.
  12. I can remember wanting him as a recruit. I thought he would be good.
  13. I call them like I see them. Rabjohns doesn’t speak for the team, but with Carr running things, Rabjohns speaks for the team again, as he once did. Holding the spots to fill later doesn’t bother me. But his statement did. It’s not the way to roster build. I certain a room of basketball minds can figure this out. Unless we are truly out of money. In which case, we did what we could, and I’ll live.
  14. If we sign a 3 unplayable players to cap the roster in the name of kumbaya roster chemistry I’ll be an unhappy camper. But that’s par for the course, so it’ll be what it’ll be.
  15. My take is this was done as a feel good to the Freshman and Sisley. KennyJ is posting highlight videos of all the freshman today too. Its just a weird phrasing. It indicates your top 10 is selected. It’s competitive sports. You fill 12 or 13 spots. It’s a team. You compete. The heart of the team is ALL 12 or 13 guys. It’s a settling mentality. I believe it’s to make the freshman and Sisley camps feel good a about not being recruited over. And I get that. Because that’s how things work these days with promises and what not. Just makes the job harder when you cap your recruiting level based on roster perception before they ever hit the court.
  16. Im sure they are. Still handicapping themselves by even thinking in those terms. Should be scouring the recruiting to find an unheralded guy that ends up surprising. Heart of team and starters should not be predetermined. Add talent until you can’t and let the best man win.
  17. Agreed, the spots will get filled. But making that statement seems like a settle. Always be looking for ways to improve the roster.
  18. It’s handicapping yourself by the level of player they are looking for if the “heart of the team” is already determined. 6 of our 10 players have real question marks on what they can contribute. Should be in on guys that are hungry to earn a spot in the top 8. The the best players rise to the top. Therefore handicapping ourselves.
  19. Agree. He factors in returning stats and coaching success. Both if of those factors knock us back. It definitely isn’t a top 5 team. Or even a top 10 team. 15-35 will feel about right. We have a lot of question marks we are counting on still. Sisley, Lindsay, Harris, and 3 freshmen. 6 of our core 10 have question marks.
  20. Yeah, I think you are right. But i think it’s handicapping yourself.
  21. And Yigi is an absolute fouling machine.
  22. Agreed. I like keeping a spot or maybe 2 open to fill with Euro or something else. Defintely need a playable big. I think Moody needs to play some. But fill the roster and let the cream rise to the top. Transfer rate is always gonna be high no matter what. Don’t handicap yourself.
  23. Rabjohns says heart of the roster is set. Big depth. I think this is a mistake. This will require a few of the freshman being ready to contribute. And provides little depth in case if injuries. I realize it’s hard to keep 11-13 happy but keeping happy vs little injury depth is a big concern. Anyway, impact guys are likely, unless we get an above average big man still.
  24. Thats my wish. And fully agree.
  25. Baba miller back in the portal. I like his game, but I don’t think we can look at this level of player unless our pitch is different.
