  1. So this picture for this thread shows Cal and some other coaches and is that Matt Nover as well? Is he coaching somewhere? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  2. If Archie is encouraging guys to leave it tells me he may be wanting to bring in guys that can help now. Brunk fits that even if he plays behind DD. Not sure if Franklin can help right away, but if not hopefully we can finally bring in a strong grad transfer. I expect us to go that route for at least one more after Brunk Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  3. If you think about it, pre injury his numbers were much higher than post injury. You could argue that this might help his draft stock if folks believe the injury caused the drop off Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  4. If not drafted, what would they be pulling their name out of? The draft would have been over. Are you saying that he can sign with an agent but if not drafted he could remain in college? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  5. Is that going to limit him trying out for teams? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  6. Do you think this was Archie driven or The Forrestor’s plan? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  7. I don’t know what a big baller really is ... Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  8. I got to give out a game ball this year. Maybe I am the big deal too. Can we get special badges on here so people know? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  9. I get Jake and his Pops frustration. So many times it seemed guys playing in front of him were either not productive (McBob, Evan, Race) or did not give effort (Smith). Even if you did not expect to play much, as the season unfolded and guys ahead of you struggled and yet you don’t see the court then you have to figure out why. When he got in he seemed enthusiastic but lost. I think I would have played enthusiastic lost players vs uninspired players and would have been frustrated being a parent. That being said, we don’t know what happened in practice, don’t know if he put in time on his own or did not follow the plan once in the game. Not enough information for me to judge Archie or Jake. Wish him well and hope he finds a place where he can play a lot. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  10. I think I was there during the brief glory years. 86 All American Bowl 87 Peach Bowl 88 Liberty Bowl Then worked at the HT though 95 and saw 3 more Bowl years Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  11. I get tired of this lazy attack. Tom Allen was a HS coach back in 2006. Since then he has been a fast rising defensive coach. He was a successful defensive coach for South Florida, Ol Miss, Arkansas State just to name a few. Here is a snippet about the success he had along the way. Ole Miss Allen spent three seasons as the linebackers coach and special teams coordinator at Ole Miss under head coach Hugh Freeze. During his time in Oxford, the Rebels went 24–15 and consistently ranked near the top of the FBS in terms of tackles for loss and sacks. Prior to his arrival, Ole Miss had ranked last in the SEC in total defense. South Florida In December 2014, Allen was named defensive coordinator at South Florida under third-year head coach Willie Taggart. In his lone season in Tampa, Allen's defensive unit ranked first the American Athletic Conference (AAC) in scoring defense at just 19.6 points per conference game. Should Glass have done a wider search, probably, but when you replace a coach you either get a mid major HC or an assistant who has had success at a high level. Allen fits the latter and being from Indiana he may be more likely to stay if he has success. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  12. I was pleasantly surprised when I visited a few years back. Very nice but a friend of mine from Pakistan was looking to take a job there and when looking at houses the realtor would not show him some houses in the nicer neighborhoods. Could have just been her but he decided not to take the job. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  13. It might be more effective to do that directly rather than publicly Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  14. I expect Alford to do well in his next stop. He will get hired by some school that enjoys having a good team every 3 or 4 years. He should stay at the midmajor level as that is a level he can have success at. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  15. Do teams still hire GA’s? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  16. Ranking does not matter nearly as much as getting the kids you target. Franklin for example looks to be a good pick up and even though his ranking is lower he was someone that the staff targeted and went after. Same with Rob. Many of the 2019 kids were have been talking about the last couple of days were not kids we targeted but kids we are going after now that targeted kids have said no. It is harder to get excited about them or feel their rankings don’t matter Hopefully we can pick up the grad transfers we target - our first choices. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  17. Why even bother offering if you are going to be under? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  18. He actually did change with the Charlie Miller, Neill Reed, Andre Patterson class. Dakich mentioned this awhile back. With that class the assistants had been encouraging him to expand recruiting nationally and he had been resistant. If I remember correctly his reluctance had more to do with his desire not to have to travel far to recruit. That class was a far more national class than what he traditionally had and they had success but they did miss the FF. I think that had more to do with RMK than the approach but I think regional kids knew more about what to expect than the national kids did. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  19. It will be interesting to see if our recruiting has stalled or if the staff can move on from Brooks quickly. I am not sure how active we really were with Lester Quinones or Tre Mitchell but we seem to be behind on one and missed on the other. I remember when Hunter committed last year it seemed to come almost out of the blue so hopefully the staff is in on some options that we are not aware of Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  20. We still have a lot of fans that would have grown up passionately dreaming of playing for IU. Unfortunately, we are all in our 40s and 50s now. I have been promoting the IU idea to my kids for nearly 30 years and outside of a couple of teams we have not had anything for kids to be passionate about. Sad but true state of the program. 21. Love how the ACC got spanked overall. If one team got in, love that it is Virginia. I got really tired of all the ACC love going into the tournament. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  22. I agree but Archie has to progress next year and answer some of these questions. If the list of questions grows or next year is worse then I don’t think he will get to 4-5 years. Some of the questions aren’t that hard to answer. As you mentioned with Leal, that might be another Franklin like pick up and if he gets some more commits ranked somewhere between him and where Hunter was I think that will be a healthy strategy over the long haul. 23. My point isn’t that recruiting has stalled but that there are a lot of new questions right now regarding whether or not Archie is the guy or not. True missing on one recruit does not definitively equal stalled but it does currently add more doubt. That was the point of my post. That while the macro measure of where we are after 2 years may suggest we are on schedule there are several micro concerns surrounding Archie and the program. I am hopeful that we start to see things that answer some of these questions or resolve the doubt but for now they are fair concerns. For example, if we go and pick up some legitimate recruits or grad transfers (especially ones that are likely to play a big role) then that will he’ll resolve my concerns that recruiting has stalled. Brink would be a good get but probably not at the TJD or even Franklin level. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  24. I like both Franklin and TJD but they committed back in the fall. Since then recruiting “seems” to have stalled. No one knows what traction we really have behind the scenes with kids and it is possible that the staff is being patient. However, there is a legitimate concern now that since the fall our recruiting has stalled. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  25. Being “on schedule” might be accurate on the macro level but since we look at things in the micro level it is good to get this macro reminder. That being said, there are legitimate concerns that developed this year on the micro level. That mid season slide, questions about his ability to coach a one and done, currently stalled recruiting, challenges getting players to play with effort, 3pt and FF shooting, and limited examples of player development (that differentiate us from other teams our level) are all red flags that give concern that Archie may have trouble becoming a top tier coach at IU. I am hopeful Archie can get it done here and that we can somehow build a strong team (like Purdue did this year) with unheralded players. But there are many legitimate concerns after 2 years. Most of these concerns are just unresolved questions at this point. Some are acting as if Archie is definitely bad in these areas and we just don’t have enough information to conclude yet. I would feel a lot better if we had fallen a little short but had competed hard every game. I would also feel better had our recruiting momentum not stalled. I still have hope but i would have hoped our list of doubts about our coach would have shrunk but the way this year went that list got bigger for me. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
