It is fair to say we haven’t landed anyone since we had that horrible losing streak. Brooks was the most likely one that could have committed and some insiders have strongly indicated that our losing streak opened the door for him to go elsewhere. Since then we seemingly have stalled. Can Archie and staff explain it away and pull on some top talent? Hopefully but so far it seems we have missed on a small handful of kids. I agree but I have to admit some concern. He did very well recruiting as you noted but then we had that losing stretch and lost Brooks. So it feels as if all that early momentum has stalled I know it is too early to say that and getting Brunk will be nice. I think it is fair to say that with several different coaches IU has not had much success with grad transfers. Max was great and Nick was pretty good but we have apparently been after many that said no and the ones not named Max or Nick that said yes were not so successful. That being said, I have no idea what the hit rate is for grad transfers. Maybe we are doing well because most of these kids don’t work out. I agree that another year like this one and Archie would be in trouble. But, this we not only did not make the tournament but for much of the year we played uninspired and seemingly without the effort required at this level. If we miss next year but the top players next year are primarily freshman and sophomores that play with great effort that makes a big difference. I think we also need to see some off season development in the current players. Almost all kids are going to get better as they get older but I have not seen any indications our ability to develop kids is anything special. I would love to see several of our returning players make noticeable jumps. It would also be helpful to see Archie’s recruits really play well. Rob was really the only one who has but Race and Hunter were hurt and Romeo was already good. If Franklin comes in and plays better than his ranking then our confidence in his ability to spot talent increases. Rick Barnes would be a very good hire for them at this stage of their search. Very good. Even if he stays only 4-5 years but has a few years there like he has this year in TN that would provide some stability. What I hope for is that we fill spots with our top choices. For example, if we swing and miss on several kids and end up with our kids that were our 4th or 5th choice I will be bummed. So that means if we target Windham early and get him great. If we try for several other kids first and end up with Windham then I would be concerned. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Didn’t Fife take a satellite small school from D2 to D1? Didn’t his teams get better every year while going from independent to joining a new conference with incredible travel on a small budget. Fife started coaching at 25 and really accomplished a ton to build a nice base for that program. He left to take an assistant gig at a top school whereas Bruiser was fired. I tend to agree but every year when new guys are coming in we tend to over hype them. But reading through some of the articles, it seems as if Brunk had some family matters off court that contributed to his slow start. He seems to have shown a lot of promise in some games which is encouraging. If Deron can find a way to be like he was for the first 8-10 games preinjury then he was very strong.
