I think one big issue is the competition for the entertainment $ and our entertainment time. My company is currently a corporate sponsor at IU but we met with the Colts recently and for about the same money we could partner with them. We would only choose one entity and if deciding today, we would switch. One of the things we have learned in the evaluation process is just how diverse our interests are now. Some fans may still like IU about the same but many are not going out of their way to get to games or other events I have set up with the program. IU fans have been in this “almost” level for awhile now and still maintain an affinity for IU but have been choosing to use the time they commit to IU games for other entertainment things now. While the Colts are pretty well ahead of the pack on interest level in the state, IU was well ahead of many of the others (think the 500 was 3rd then the Pacers but I could be wrong on the Pacers). That is the case with IU fans having been waiting for a consistent winner. If IU can find a way to build that consistent winner, especially if every 2-4 yrs we make a run , then I think folks will start choosing to go to IU games over some of the other options. Just curious. How many Dayton games did you watch? I watched a couple the year he made his run and then watched the following year when they played here in Indy. The Indy game was not that exciting but the tourney run games were. Still I would not presume to think that watching that tourney run and deciding that was any more indicative of what his teams can do than making that decision based on how we played down the stretch this year (2 wins vs MSU). I think this is a fair point. It could very well be that he wanted teammates to do something differently. Also very possible that while the coaches would have agreed in general his approach to fixing that problem was the incorrect approach. Is that how it all started? I used to listen to Kent on the radio some back then and had never heard he was part of the source on this. I could see that being true but could also see that he was passing on bad information that he felt was accurate. Honestly this will be an interesting search. By all accounts their AD is what we should have looked for in an AD. One who has been gaining increasing levels of success and high level schools. The fact that he is an alum sure helps. I hope they do get aggressive and try to go after some big fish just to see what could happen. They may swing and miss like UCLA and he would look bad or he could really make an aggressive, targeted pitch and end up with a great hire. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Come on. The stable of players we have are not at the same level as guys like Brooks. A few players maybe but one of them has significant medical hurdles yet to clear. I think some can be really good and they will benefit from competition but they are not at his level. My argument is not about bashing our players but the fans who criticize the selfish player but at the same time want to use immediate playing as one of our top draws. That argument alone is just as likely to attract a kid who is more interested in what he gets out of the program than what he earns. Then a kid like Brooks decides to go to UK knowing he would not have guaranteed playing time and our same fans call his decision stupid or call his parents idiots. I don’t know the Brooks family but if I had my choice between a kid who wanted to go to a program that is frequently a national contender but would have to fight for his minutes vs a kid who chose a struggling program because he could immediately get minutes I am going to choose the kid fighting for his minutes. To be honest I can’t wait till we can recruit kids who want to come here and know they have to compete for any time the get. Certainly some truth to the idea that the admin makes it harder but Archie had a very good class last year and was on his way to an even better class this year. The question is, did the administration/compliance limitations cause us to lose a guy like Brooks or was that due to our performance this year. Last year Archie and the future here looked very bright but now it is much cloudier and questions have developed. Can Archie coach/relate to 5* kids? Can Archie win at this level?
