Class of '66 Old Fart Posted Tuesday at 06:22 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:22 PM Thanks @go iu bb. I don't follow swimming on a regular basis and this was the first I'd heard of this new league. Counting on you to be our prime source of swim/dive info again this year. Quote
BeerBQ Posted Friday at 07:13 PM Posted Friday at 07:13 PM I remember reading about the CSL but kind of forgot about it. They have something called skins and super skins on the schedule that I couldn’t find any info about. I think the overall goals are to bring swimming to more people (the ESPN contract should help there) and making the format shorter and easier to follow. I’m hoping it works out. And IU wins. Quote

Yes, that is the goal. That is also why they made the changes such as removing the B Finals from the NCAA championship meet. Thankfully those are coming back but it does show that they're trying to find ways to make meets more marketable. That means more exciting and less down time. The skins and super skins events I think will be like the skins event from the ISL. A 50 yd (since this is college) race that is swum over and over eliminating swimmers each round. Think a tournament format in the pool. https://sa.swimming.org.au/swim-articles/what-skins-race Quote

I understand the thinking behind dropping B finals, but the meet was still something like 4 days and 2 sessions per day. The average non swimming fan probably isn’t going to be interested in following that. Condensing a meet into a single session that isn’t 4 hours should be a lot more intriguing. Quote
BeerBQ Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Sorry if it’s been posted but there was a good article about IU alum, current employee, and elite breastroker Van Mathias. It dives into training and how it has evolved. https://www.si.com/olympics/the-most-interesting-man-in-swimming-is-doing-less-but-setting-records Class of '66 Old Fart 1 Quote
