Lasik

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I am considering LASIK and wanted to get some opinions. Can you answer some questions about it if you've had the procedure done?

-How long ago was it?

-How is your vision now? Has it deteriorated at all from when you first had the procedure?

-Did you have any side effects (dry eyes, halos, chronic pain)? If so, how long did that last?

-Do you mind mentioning what you paid? If not, do you mind saying whether you went to a big place with lots of churn or a small practice?

-What was the overall experience like?

Thank you!

I had it done about 11 years ago. My vision went from 20/75 left, 20/80 right to 20/15+1 (not 20/16???). I haven't had any worsening in vision, though someone I work with in their mid 40s has been starting to use reading glasses. I get dry eyes but I always had dry eyes from allergies.I get a little strain from time to time but it's what normal people would get strain from i.e. staring at a TV or monitor for an extended time. I paid about $1000 for each eye. I went to a place in the east with several offices (diamond vision). The experience was fine, be prepared to set some time for a couple pre and post op appts. By luck, the surgeon who lasered my eyes was a grad of the IU school of optometry.

My wife had it a few months back.
She has 20/15 vision now, hasn't deteriorated but it was recent. No dry eyes, but does have some halos at night, Dr said that would/should improve by about the 6 month mark, seems better already but still halos.
Went to a well known place but actually found a Groupon to save a little cash, ended up being about $1300 per eye, before the Groupon.
Overall great experience, she talked about how nice, informative, and soothing the doctor and nurses were.

I was thinking of it too! Probably going in next year after I run out of this order of contacts (dumb reason but oh well)

My mother had it done. She went from a +12.00 and -something stupid high to 20/20 and now uses readers. She was hovering around legally blind for both nearsightedness and farsightedness before LASIK. This was around 8 years ago.

I had been waiting to make sure my prescription was stable, and my eyes are actually getting better (-1.5 for the last 15ish years to -1.00 last visit). So, I'll probably pull the trigger soon too. We have incredible eye services out here, which is great because my daughter inherited her grandmother's eyes.
