Halstead projected to stay with the High A San Jose Giants this season.

Halstead was added to San Jose’s playoff roster last September after spending the entire regular season as a key component of Augusta’s bullpen. The hard-throwing right-hander owned a 3.83 ERA and four saves over 40 relief appearances with the GreenJackets last year. He also possessed an outstanding 62-to-9 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 54 innings. Halstead was as dominant as any reliever in the South Atlantic League during the second half posting an incredible 0.32 ERA (1 ER/28.1 IP) after the All-Star break. He was immediately thrust into some big spots during the Mini Series last September after his promotion and would figure to be an important late-inning arm for San Jose again this season.

Five San Jose pitchers combined on a two-hitter in a 3-2 Giants victory over the Visalia Rawhide on Tuesday evening at Municipal Stadium. San Jose (7-4) scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the first and would hang on late to claim the opener of the four-game series.

San Jose starter Matt Krook worked the first four innings and surrendered just one hit and one unearned run. Krook, who received a no-decision, walked five batters and struck out five during his 79-pitch outing. Bryan Morris, Carlos Diaz, Caleb Simpson and Ryan Halstead then combined for five scoreless innings of relief. Morris (1-0) was credited with the win after tossing a 1-2-3 top of the fifth while Halstead pitched a perfect ninth inning for his first save of the year.

The San Jose Giants salvaged the final game of their four-game series in Rancho Cucamonga with a come-from-behind 5-2 victory over the Quakes on Thursday evening at LoanMart Field. The Giants (10-11) overcame a late 2-0 deficit scoring four times in the top of the seventh to take the lead en route to securing the win.

Ryan Halstead (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO) threw a scoreless inning of relief to seal the victory. Halstead notched his third save of the year.

Playing his third overall season with the Flying Squirrels, Halstead has gone 3-6 with a 3.53 ERA this season in 33 total appearances. In his six starts, the first starts of his professional career, Halstead has gone 1-2 with a 2.67 ERA. After opening the season with an 8.44 ERA through his first 10 games, Halstead has posted a 1.89 ERA in his 23 pitching outings for the Flying Squirrels since May 21.

"Ryan Halstead earned and deserves this award," Harris said. "Coming from where he was earlier in the season, he was the best pitcher for us this year. He will do anything you ask him to do, whether you need him to go two innings or five innings, he was willing to do it for the team."
