Creanism vs. Team Performance

Recommended Posts

It is often said a team is a reflection of their coach or a team takes on the personality of their coach.  With that in mind, it got me thinking how this IU team reflects coach Crean.  Please feel free to add to it.

-  Horrible Defense is a reflection of "No Defense"

Coach Crean's defense of why his team played so poorly is only matched by the teams effort to lockdown on defense.

-  Turnovers are a reflection of "Creaning"

The roster turnover every year has all us diehard fans on edge much like the passes flying out of bounds in critical junctures of the game.

-  Jump passes are a reflection of frenetic pacing

Neither passer nor Crean know where they are going or why they are doing it but dammit they'll keep doing it.

-  Best defense is a good offense is a reflection "Question the questioner"

Instead of defending to get back on offense just take it from the net and throw it in to start your offensive possession.  Crean is a master at this when asked a difficult question, "well mister media guy 'why do you think we couldn't beat the zone?'"

- Our absolute lack of discipline is a reflection of yelling at opposing assistant coaches/refs

Why would your team be disciplined enough to make clutch plays when the coach can't help but get in an assistant coaches face after a game?

The best players in yesterday's game were upperclassmen.  The worst performances were turned in by underclassmen.  That's a direct reflection on Creanism.

Great points. The answer to every easy layup given or any mistake make is the ole arm wind up "lets go lets go". As if running up the floor a little faster solves everything. The talent is here the coaching is not. Anyone who thinks TB "solves" the issues with this team is nuts. We continue to last basic basketball fundamentals needed for any sustained success.

My son is a freshman at IU, played basketball all 4 years in high school. Shameless plug: his team won the freshman intramural bb tourn. (Sorry for digressing) I went down to several bb games this year and he sat with me. He said at a game back in November that Creans offense is what he was taught when he was a FRESHMAN in high school: the "simple weave". ( his coach that year was Basil Smothermans dad ) It worked ok for for the cupcakes in the fall, but when it came to B1G season, it failed miserably. The problem was, when it failed, and teams were shutting it down, he didn't change it. The result- watch the Iowa and NW games. I really think he can recruit, but when it comes to X's and O's you might as well call it "strategery". If you have the talent to pull it off like Oladipo, Zeller, and Hulls they can make it look good. But when you don't, well, you get this season.
