I never said ours was bad but this 5 games against the 300+ teams weigh a lot. I personally like our mix of games in the non conference and I believe that it is perfect for our team. Just saying I wouldn't call it strong by any means in terms of overall RPI.

We can afford this non conference with our league play. We have SMU, Georgetown, Pit, and Louisville. Not a bad slate. Butler could help us out if they improve this season. With the Big Ten being so open, we have no idea who will be ranked where when we play them. All teams minus Purdue and Rutgers have good non conference schedules. Our RPI won't take a huge hit with Grand Canyon State and schools of the like. Personally, I want the cuppiest of cupcakes to get this team gelling before we have to play Louisville and Pitt.

IMO, a good record with a few marquee wins is more important to the selection committee than overall strength of non conference schedule. I think that Louisville game is extremely important for this team.

You obviously know little about Grand Canyon U. This will only be their 2nd year in D1, but they are a good BB team. They are predicted to finish very high in the WAC this year. I predict a win for the Hoosiers, but they are not the lowly cupcake that you are thinking IMO.

Yes, this will be his second year. He really has people excited about the direction of their program. Plus the program also is being backed by Jerry Colangelo, Chairman of USA Basketball, who has an official position with the university. He was behind the push for D1 status. On a side note, GCU will play at Kentucky either right before or right after they play IU.
