Likely coincidence but maybe not. IMHO I don't see why IU shouldn't go after the DMV area and the NY area. Those kids are mentally tougher than kids around here it seems. There is no doubt IU must recruit the state all out all of the time. But it's different than it used to be.

Very, very few kids are coming because it's IU basketball. They are coming to play for the coach/coaching staff.

So you would also agree when these top kids aren't coming to IU its also because of the coach/coaching staff? Can't have it both ways.

No, I'm pretty sure if we just had Indiana high school recruits we would never lose a game. I mean even the 3* recruits from Indiana are better basketball players than any kid on the right coast.

Hasn't Crean already found and played Indiana walk ons more than a lot of his schollied players such as Bawa, Jurkin, Guy Marc, and Perea? Not bad for going into the student body unless your the coach assigning scholarships.
There's a lot of talent just walk around the hyper or check out the ntramural games. Going undefeated may be a stretch though.

Absolutely. Not every kid wants to play for a coach like Crean who is demanding. Most want the path of least resistance. Everybody wants to talk about Bluiett, but he would have to compete here. Not the case at XU.

He was being sarcastic

Sent from my place of advanced, analytical thinking: the toilet.

Our area has tough minded recruits too. They just happen to pick other schools to play college ball.

Like Hulls, Zeller, Ferrell, Blackmon? Not saying there aren't tough players in the Midwest but it's interesting that the ones who have come to IU and not been tough enough have been from the holy land that is Indiana. People really believe that there's something in the water that makes Indiana kids better for IU. It's a joke.

A school like IU should recruit the entire country if they're trying to win a national title. If people would take off their IU glasses for a minute, they would realize why Harris, Bluiett, and whoever else chose not to come to IU. It's not the home run guarantee that people expect it to be.

It's better to be a national recruiting power. You can say what you want--but the Indiana name still gets kids to take a closer look at us. I am constantly amazed that we are able to jump in many recruiting battles late and still become a finalist.

I once heard from another poster--- and there is a lot of truth to it----that if all we had on our roster was a bunch of 3 star high school players from the State of Indiana---then we would be Purdue !  And just how exactly has that turned out for them??????

Just don't like missing all the studs form our State. S. May, Josh McRoberts 3- Plumlees, D.Thomas, M.McGary, G.Robinson jr, D.Teague, G.Harris, M.Irvin.

I know I'm missing a bunch.  Those are just some really good players off the top of my head.  Bluiett and Lyles will be darn good too!  We should go all out for the best in Indiana, then fill in with the rest of the country.  There are enough great players here in the Midwest, to not have to rely on 3 star kids from elsewhere.

Honestly, there are kids that just flat out do have a desire to play for Indiana. McRoberts is one of them.  The Plumlees were from Indiana, but played high school basketball in North Carolina, hence the draw to Duke, McGary played at a prep school out of state. Glen Robinson Jr was under recruited by the whole nation. He only had offers from ISU, Valpo, and a few no names until Michigan offered at the last minute. Indiana was the first school to offer Irvin, but he mentions that he always dreamed of going to Michigan, so as soon as they offered him, he agreed.
It's one thing that a lot of people don't seem to understand, sometimes kids have their minds made up on what school they like even before their recruiting picks up. Take Swanigan for example. He has said from the beginning that he wanted to play for Michigan St.
The staff at IU can only do so much, not every player is going to come to Indiana. Heck Knight didn't always get all the top talent from Indiana to come to IU.
