Tournament Team?

Recommended Posts

The thing is, I'm not so sure we would win a number of NIT games.

I'd by far rather go to the NCAA tourney this year, even if it is just for one game. The NIT is just a place of shame to me.

Agree 100%. Much rather be in the tournament. Even if we get knocked out in the first round it would be nice to be in it a little bit. Also, this team has the potential to grab an upset or two. Could be fun.

Exactly. We play up to the level of our competition. I've had little doubt that we could do serious damage in the dance , my doubt is about whether or not we can handle business to get there.

Indiana honestly COULD make the Sweet 16 again this year if we make the tournament.... Hear me out.

We get in as a 12 seed and most likely in the Play in Game (Round 1).  We win and move on to play a 5 seed which are teams like Iowa & Ohio State which we can clearly beat.  Then we'd play the number 4 seed which is currently (via Lunardi) - San Diego St, Cincy, Saint Louis and Iowa State.

I AM NOT SAYING THIS IS LIKELY.  All I'm saying is that if IU gets into the tournament, we've proven we can play with everyone...

I guess I'm too pragmatic. If I see some signs of consistency over the last run of games, including the B10 Tourney I'll buy into that mindset but I haven't seen any consistent hunger out of these guys. Shoot Vonleh looked to be loping around at times yesterday. I'm just not seeing it.

I would take NCAA overr NIT just for experience factor. Even if we got embarrassed our freshman get to experience the NCAA tourney experience and won't be new coke next year. That's if we even make it this year.

I've kind of been thinking this. A win or 2 in the B1G tourney would definitely help. Ohio State doesn't count as a ranked team either because they'll be out as of Monday. We have to go 3 in a row against really tough teams to even have a shot though.

Actually, I think that still counts tho.

Yeah it counts as beating a ranked team, but I'm sure the committee would put an asterisk on it.

Ohio State has still won 6 out of their last 8 games.  I don't know that they fall out of the rankings and stay out of the rankings.  They have had some pretty good runs this year and have beaten some good teams.  OSU would be a quality win imo.

I totally agree with you. OSU would be another big time win for us. I'm just looking at it strictly as a ranked vs. non ranked opponent and how the committee might look at it.

Exactly. Right now Lunardi has 6 Big ten teams in, with Minnesota being the 6th. He also has Nebraska as the 6th team away from the field. Therefore, for any chance at this, IU will need to do well and Minnesota and Nebraska tank which allows IU to sneak in as the 6th Big ten Team (Maybe 7th)
