What are everyone's thoughts on the B1G East?

Recommended Posts

As a new Hoosier I want to hear everyone's thoughts on the new division. Obviously the strength of schedule will be brutal playing OSU, MSU, Michigan and PSU every season. Geographically, being on the East coast myself I am happy I can see the Hoosiers play locally at Maryland and make short road-trips to Penn State and Rutgers. However it seams out of all the B1G the Hoosiers got the short end of the stick geographically. Yes we still get to play Purdue but lost two relatively close geographical rivals in Illinois and NWU (actually Columbus is probably a shorter road trip than Chicago?). On the flip side, Indiana could really benefit by playing in the bigger east coast markets. I know there are lots of Indiana alum in NYC and DC. What does everyone think the net gain or loss is?

With that said I came across an interesting blog. The ACC is attempting to ease the requirements on conference championship games, potentially giving conferences the freedom to rid themselves of divisions. Anyways here is the blog post with a new B1G division free alignment.

In summary, no divisions, each school has three geographical rivals they play annually, and the top two records play in the conference championship. IU's rivals would be Purdue, IL, and NWU. The geographical rivals seem fair to everyone.

I would love to hear everyone's thoughts.
