DickieV wants IU vs. pUKe back.

Recommended Posts

"What can he do to get the Kentucky-Indiana rivalry re-ignited after a gap of two seasons?

That was a game that was regularly remarkable. Now they don't play. That's not so awesome, baby.

"I say it to all of you, that game has to happen," Vitale said during an interview at his home on Wednesday "Please put pressure. Write to (UK coach John) Calipari. Write to Tom Crean (of IU). Get it done. You fans deserve it. The players deserve it. All the people in the basketball community deserve it.  There's no way shape or form that Kentucky and Indiana should not play.

"And two people are controlling that decision -- Tom Crean and John Calipari -- I love them both. Have the game happen. I've left messages for them. It's only good for the game. Think about the game of basketball that's been good to you, Tom and good to you, John.

"Now you've got to give back and sometimes eat a little pride. So you make a trip to Bloomington. You make a trip to Rupp. Big deal. Play the other two at the Hoosier Dome (Lucas Oil Stadium). And then make a nice donation to the V Foundation to help kids battling cancer."

Vitale is not playing to the television cameras or his nearly 600,000 followers on Twitter. He mentions the broken Kentucky-Indiana rivalry every time we talk.

In fact, Vitale said that on Wednesday afternoon, he made three calls – two to Calipari and another to Crean.

Vitale said that he left long, passionate messages for both coaches, alternately encouraging and admonishing them to work out the scheduling impasse. In fact, Vitale wants to put an exclamation point on the series when the Wildcats and Hoosiers eventually play again by creating a cause:

He wants the game to generate $250,000 for a grant in his battle against pediatric cancer. If anybody can make that happen, Dick Vitale can make that happen."

I'm kind of meh on the subject. It was a marquee game but with ken$$ucky being so slimy I kind of hate even playing them. I dunno... What's everyone think about this? Should they kiss and make up or just say no?

I'm over it I think IU should schedule a new annual home and home with someone like UCLA or Louisville. They gotta do somethin though cuz the non conf schedule is poor.

Every game I watch that Vitale is on he mentions this... it doesn't matter who is playing he talkes about it every single time....

I do want this to happen... And I think it will (not necessarily because of Vitale) eventually but maybe not until one of the 2 coaches are gone.... both seem to be very adament about their position.... I personally love CTC's position of home and homes, get the full experience.... pUKe plays everybody in neutral sites... But if we were to go Neutral and get the Kentucky neutral back in Louisville it would make it very easy to go for me.....

Doubt a home & home with UofL will happen now that they are joining the ACC because of some rules in the Challenge.... UCLA would be interesting because of Alford but that is a long road trip at the begining of a season...

I would love it if we scheduled the state of Indiana for as much of our pre-conf season as possible, Notre Dame, Butler, Indiana State, Ball State, Evansville, IPFW, IUPUI, Valpo, throw in a few D2 schools or something as we always do...

I miss big rivalry games like that.  We don't have anything like it anymore.   It's a huge spectacle.  It's national television.  It's a dream for recruiting.  It's what I loved about Indiana growing up.  We always played the best teams on the biggest stage.  One things sure, you sure as heck aren't getting an entire nation of fans going batdung crazy over Indiana/UCLA.

Yeah, I've heard Dickie go on about it on a few games myself. It's almost as annoying to me as the Robert Montgomery Knight Assembly Hall spiel he drones on about. I wonder if he's dropped that now. I really try not to listen to him at all.

To your last point, I would LOVE to see the Crossroads Classic expanded with those teams you just mentioned.

You are probably right I was just throwing it out there because of Alford. I really hope they do something though.

I've always wanted to see that too. Wish they could make a tournament out of it. Even if IU and Purdue met in a non conf title game on a neutral floor... That would be a big draw game too for people in indiana.

We need a premeir rivalry game. I'm just not sure it should be with ken$$ucky anymore. No, I don't have an alternative in mind. Kansas might be the best choice. We used to play them on CBS every year. Maybe again?

Here's a question. Is the program ready for that type game again? Are we really back or just knocking on the door? I think we're close... not so sure it's a done deal yet.

I would love to see UK back on the schedule, but only if they play on campus. Like others have said, there is nothing like that big rivalry game.

That being said, I don't understand why we can't get the likes of Temple, Kansas, Gonzaga, or UCLA on the schedule. IU's schedule has got to get beefed up and there should be no reason not to try to get Steve Alford back in the Hall. That would be epic.

My last line was not intended to be as harsh as it read.  I was going for sort of a, Kentucky has a lot more historical significance to us type of thing.

I would love to see the IU/UK game back because my family is split between IU and UK and we always have a fun time with it, but if we're being honest the series won't come back until Calipari is gone or CTC agrees to all neutral.

Why no Butler anymore?  I see you guys suggested to have them in the crossroads.  I like that, but don't we usually get them regardless?  Is there a reason we stopped this year?

I think that was a 2 or 4 year contract that didn't get renewed. Now we just play them every other year in Indy at Crossroads.

Personally, I'd really like to see a home and away series with Louisville. It's a bus trip! Crazy that we don't play them.

I've had that on my mind for a few years now.  Always thought it strange, given the geography.  Anyone know if there is a specific reason we don't?

Eh, Vitale has been talking about this for over a year now. I remember when we were playing Georgetown in the preseason tournament we played in last year, and he got a text or something like that from Cal saying he wanted to play at a neutral site against IU. The way I read it was he was trying to back Crean into a corner and make him out to be the issue in discussions, because Vitale wanted them in the coaches vs cancer event or something like that. But I am biased because I think Cal is a piece of crap.

I don't think it is realistic to have the IU/UK rivalry so long as Cal and Crean are at their schools, neither is going to back off their demands. We've all heard the rumors of potentially playing KU or Louisville, I would be up for playing either one home and home
