How to Improve College Hoops

Recommended Posts

Jay Bilas wrote a great piece on how to improve the college basketball game that has declined over the last decade. Bilas makes some solid points:

- Hire NCAA officials instead of them being contractors

- Clean it up- take out some of the physicality to let athletes perform without getting beaten up

- Speed it Up - Shorten the shot clock, go to 4 quarters, reduce timeouts

- Let the Talent shine - lengthen 3pt line, widen lane, institute half court throw ins late I. The game.

You can read the whole thing here: http://m.espn.go.com/ncb/story?storyId=9867778&src=desktop

He makes some good points and almost all of them would help the Hoosiers with our up tempo style of play. It would also be fun to see Wisconsin after these changes.... They wouldn't be happy.

So pretty much make it the NBA rules? But maybe 10 minute quarters to keep it at 40 minutes instead of 12 minute quarters.

I'm not opposed.

I like it all but the half court throw-ins. Never been a fan of that rule.

I LOVE that rule. Think how much more exciting the end of game situations would be. It would increase the excitement factor 10 fold

I don't like that rule. I don't care about the 'excitement' factor either.

Why not start any drive at the 50 yard line after a score in the final 2 mins? That would be exciting!!!!

I'm okay with hiring NCAA officials instead of contractors.  I'm neutral with making it 4 quarters, don't care one way or the other.

I absolutely hate the idea of a shorter shot clock.  I don't want it too much like the NBA, I utterly despise the crap the NBA puts on display and find it borderline unwatchable, so to me that wouldn't be an improvement.

Cleaning up the physical play is a must imo.  Too much physical play has hurt the game, see Wisconsin.

I have no problem with widening the lane and extending the 3 point line.

NO HALF COURT THROW INS!

Leave the 20 minute halves and shot clock alone.

Hiring officials instead of contractors is one I'm neutral on.
