Indiana vs MSU Game Thread

Recommended Posts

Man I wish I was going to be home to watch this one.  Unfortunately I'll be flying to my wife's nephew's LSU themed first birthday party in Dallas, but I digress.

I said in another thread and I'll say it again here, we need to get off to a good start.  We can't get down big and have to play from behind on the road against a good defense.  This is a game I'm not expecting to win, but wouldn't be shocked if we did.

Don't come home without the spittoon boys.  Go Hoosiers.

Yeah, it was actually a good note that the IU offense did not get going fast against PSU, but the D managed to keep them in the game until they got rolling. However, I don't want to see the offense not get rolling until the second half at MSU, or I have a feeling its going to be very tough, if not a blowout. I think the MSU defense is going to make it a real challenge for the IU offense, but we will make some plays and we must capitalize when we do. I hope CKW doesn't forget we have a punter again either. I think its all nice and fine to go for it on fourth if the field position is right and its very short, but the 3 points can be better than nothing.

If the IU defense can contain the MSU offense, this game could well be decided very late. MSU is a lot stronger on D than they are on the offensive, and we need the same D effort and execution we had against PSU.

Special teams and turnover may very well be the big difference in this game. I could very easily see a game with little offensive scoring, but with defensive or special teams plays putting points on the board.

Time for Time Bennet to pick one of those passes. GO IU!!

Great point about CKW and the punter.  I hope that as the defense improves and play better that he feels more comfortable punting and trusting the defense instead of feeling he has to go for it.  On a related note, I hope he starts to realize that at times there is no shame in taking the 3 instead of going for it on 4th to get the 7.

Oops. Not forgetting about the punter may be a good point, but it was field goal kicking I meant. Toth's punting is getting a bit better too, which is making it easier to use him more. I'd still like to see him be able to stretch the field out once in a while by getting a few up in the 50 yard range.

Do you guys think we may see some Tre Roberson?  With MSU's Defense, Tre could be a useful weapon to try and beat them with his legs, but also with his arm.  I would love to see Tre come out in his first place with a deep pass.  MSU will be playing the QB run the whole way.  Sneak attack!!! lol

Somehow a little trickery or a variation or two in scheme seems very possible. I bet Tre sees a few plays.

I'm sure we'll see some Tre today.  I'll be shocked if he throws the deep ball. While it would be a surprise to do so and might catch MSU off guard, their secondary is one of the best in the game...I don't want an inaccurate deepball against MSU.
