(2025) PG Chance Mallory to Virginia - Maybe Not?

Recommended Posts

72-61 win for STAB (17-3) over Steward (11-7) in a game that wasn't that close until the 4th Q and the STAB second unit didn't play much defense.  My man Chance with a rough night.  Finished with 13 pts. but on 4-15 FG; 2-6 on 3s; 3-4 FT.  Had chances at the rim but just couldn't finish tonight as he usually does.  4 reb. for his lowest total of the season; 4 steals; 0 blocks; 5 turnovers a season high.  Same official nailed him 3 times for traveling.  I couldn't see he did anything different than any other player but he got called nonetheless.  Made me think of Scott May in his junior year (I think) catching the ball in the paint, making a move and repeatedly getting whistled for traveling.  Knight was adamant he wasn't traveling but the calls persisted throughout the season.

83-62 win over Woodberry Forest.  Mallory's had a couple of rough shooting nights but tonight wasn't one of them.  I scored him with 36p on 14-23 FG; 5-8 on 3s; 3-3 FT.  7r;  4a;  2s;  0b;  1t in basically 3 quarters of action.  Maybe a coincidence and maybe not but the last couple of games, another player assumed the primary role of point guard and offense initiator.  Tonight it was back in Mallory's hands.  It does seem like the STAB offense runs much more smoothly if he's the one that's in control of the offense.

We could do a lot worse than having a 5'10" PG on the roster.  STAB wins it 73-59.  Mallory 24p;  5r;  6a;  1s;  0b;  2t

9-11 FG; 4-6 on 3s;  2-3 FT.  This in 23 min.    All 6 of his assists resulted in made 3's.  He picked up his 3rd foul just 45 sec. into the 2nd Q and spent the rest of the half on the bench.  In the 3rd he scored 8 of his team's 10 points and had 3 reb. before picking up his 4th foul with 2:30 remaining in the Q and it was a really bad call.  STAB led 50-49 after 3.  In the 4th he scored 13 pts on 5-5 shooting and had 2 of his 6 assists so he effectively accounted for 19 of STAB's 23 4th Q pts.

Just another hu hum night for Mallory.  40 pts. on 17-24 FG; 22 reb; 3 asst.  I watched this game and only 2 of his 17 were 3s.  He had a couple of rebound putbacks and every other shot he made was on a drive to the basket.  5'10" but fearless at getting into the paint and mixing it up.

22 rebs for any guard is quite impressive...

90-74 win.  30p;  10r;  6a;  4s;  0b;  1t        11-19 FG;  0-5 on 3s;  8-10 FT.

Managing to score 1.7 PPS while making zero 3’s. That right there is Woody’s dream stat line.

I am an emotional wreck.  My guy Chance went down midway thru the 2nd Q going for a rebound and grabbing his right ankle.  Never returned to action and after STAB won 75-60 he went through the handshake line on crutches and in a boot.  This was a Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) quarterfinal tournament game and STAB plays in the semifinals on March 1.

For his 12 minutes of game time he scored 9p;  3r;  3a.

So he broke a foot at an inopportune time? He’s an IU lock.

STAB advanced to the VISAA D-1 State Championship with a 69-59 win over St. Christopher the same team they beat last Sunday for the VPAL championship 63-59.  Mallory was not on the court for pre-game warmups but he started and played the first 4 min.  Sat out the rest of the 1st Q and 5 min. of the 2nd.  Typically he might sit out the last min. of the 2nd Q and the last couple of min. of a blowout game but other than that he plays mostly 28+ min.  Although his minutes were limited he didn't show any visible evidence that his ankle was bothering him.  He finished with 16p; 6r;  1a;  3s;  0b;  1t.
