Class of '66 Old Fart

IUBB vs Providence - 11/30/20 @ 2:15 ET

Recommended Posts

Race played the way we've all be clamoring for Justin Smith to play the last couple years. Smart, tough, determined, and had his motor running high the whole game on both sides. I really enjoyed watching him play and hope he keeps it up! He won't shoot 75% from the field every game of course but the level of effort can hopefully be maintained.

One of the bigger takeaways for me was the tight rotation.  I have always wanted to get away from the hockey substitutions and play your best guys 30-35 minutes, assuming you have best guys.  Archie mostly did that yesterday.

Definitely in the second half - rotation was tight.

I don't disagree with keeping the rotation a little tighter -- especially to the guys who are playing well. But at the same time, in the last 2-3 minutes yesterday, it was pretty obvious we weren't gonna lose. I would've liked to see Leal get a couple minutes. Maybe he can knock down a 3 or a 15-footer so he can gain some confidence and feel more comfortable. He didn't look comfortable against Tennessee Tech.

I was a little surprised by that. I don't know if Miller lacked confidence in the bench or was trying to build chemistry. But playing three games in three days is going to really tax conditioning. I hope the extended minutes don't bite us against Texas.
