4-star combo guard originally committed to Pitt and then in late July announced he was de-committing and re-opening his recruitment.  Last season he attended Combine Academy in Lincolnton, NC and in June announced he would transfer to Montverde Academy for the upcoming season.  The 6’4”, 185-pound combo guard split his upbringing between the Pittsburgh and Charlotte areas, spending his early years in Penn Hills before settling in the Tar Heel State in 2016.  Since then, he has played for Northside Christian School, where he averaged 13.0 points, 4.8 assists and 4.5 rebounds as a freshman, and Combine Academy, where he averaged 15.6 points, 6.0 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game as a sophomore.

In the latest 247 rankings he is #46 having slipped 13 places since the previous rankings.   My $.02 worth.  This one just doesn't feel right.  Can't really point to any one thing but it just doesn't feel like a good target to go after IMO.

I’m finding it hard to imagine we’re still interested in either of these guys

Hard to say.  Montverde is a loaded team led by 4 seniors Caleb Houstan (Michigan), DaRon Holmes II (Dayton), Langston Love (Baylor) and Ryan Nembhard (Creighton).   Obviously neither is good enough to bump any of these 4 out of a starter role but we really can't get a good feel for just how good they may be.   Montverde is the #1 ranked team and now has a 38 game winning streak.

Tonight at 7:30 ET, ESPN will televise Montverde Academy vs. IMG Academy.   Both teams are currently undefeated and IMG is the last team to have beaten Montverde back in 2019.

We have offers to Hood-Schifino #24 and Justice Williams #11 neither of whom appears to see much playing time with both averaging around 12-14 minutes/game.  The Montverde starting 5 consists of 4 seniors already committed to D1 schools:  Baylor, Creighton, Dayton and Michigan so the real opportunity to see what Hood-Shifino and Williams can do will come next season.  Based on minutes played, they are the first 2 players off the bench.

Story on just how good Montverde Academy is.

Two No. 1 ranked teams, Montverde Academy and Orlando Christian Prep, are closing in on historic achievements with their win streaks.

Montverde (15-0), the independent powerhouse that sits again in a familiar position as the national No. 1 ranked team, has won 40 consecutive games going into its Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament, now a two-weekend showcase that opens Thursday night.

If the Eagles win their Thursday game against Legacy Early College (9-7) of South Carolina, they will equal the 41-game winning streak their program compiled in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. Montverde was 30-0 in 2006-07 to launch that run, which set an Orlando area record.

Montverde meets a top 25 team, La Lumiere School (3-4) of Indiana, on Friday in day two of the MAIT and can surpass its own record.

The Eagles will have homecourt rematches with fifth-ranked Oak Hill Academy (13-1) of Virginia on Saturday and second-ranked Sunrise Christian Academy (12-1) of Kansas on Friday, Feb. 5.

OCP, which is ranked No. 1 in Florida for all FHSAA classifications, is right behind Montverde with 39 wins in a row and counting. The Warriors, 19-0 this season, were scheduled to play the top-ranked team in Class 3A, Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian, in a home game Saturday night as part of “The Invitational” showcase event. But that game was canceled by OCP due to school COVID-19 concerns.inter Haven 51-49 in 1957.
