There are many names on the recruiting trail for IU Ladies basketball that have been offered scholarships/NIL by IU for the next few years. Currently, it basically means that IU Ladies will be on the top 25 to 50 list of schools for each recruit.
(exceptions are for schools like LSU, UCONN, and SC and some others…who most always have a much higher percentage to get recruits they target or really want).

IU Ladies need the revamped recruiting strategy to pay dividends.

Why would they want to come back? They found greener pastures, and I hope they thrive there.

Disagree.  They have not found greener pastures.  And from time perspective all but Curry-Jelks and LaMendola when careers are completed most time of players careers will be completed and defined at IU.  (not only time wise but it may even prove out statistically….give or take a little but not much change).  Except for Garzon the others went to lesser programs.

Greener pastures for them. Smaller stage, where they will probably be able to contribute more. It will be interesting to watch them this year.

The Lexi Bargesser thing is puzzling to me but I understand the rest of them. She was basically a starter and would have played a lot this season.

Have enough to work with in a transition year. See who develops/steps up.

Or currently not being able to land a significant impact player from transfer portal or wherever.

This is what I’m seeing. It’s not like we stopped recruiting, it’s more that we missed. NIL apparently not high enough, etc. Moren talked openly about needing to get more athletic and bigger. Looking forward to that developing

Bargesser signs with IU Ladies in high school (quick and fast athletic).  Then seriously injured leg keeping her out her senior year of high school and did compete towards end of track season…but not as fast (and quick). This set her back a couple years in college basketball (especially at big ten level).  Her dedication and determination and hard work led by IU Ladies program allowed her to compete and return (maybe not quite the player she might have been before senior high school injury)….competing for starting position but definitely would have played alot.  Knowing IU system and her dedication and hard work may have made her take a good step forward.

Janiyah Hargrave 2028,  Fairmont H.S. Ohio 5’9” can be added to IU Ladies list of players being recruited.  Did not make under 16 USA roster but has solid stats for 2024-2025.

25 games

17.1 points   7.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists

I think Zania was a big pick-up. She was hot stuff coming out of high school, and has big upside (probably required NIL). Jade Ondineme would qualify as an "athletic upgrade", no? For "a sure thing", if you mean Olivia Miles, I don't know if that's really a good player to pursue. Big ego, one year, not building a team.

With the new NIL universe, "sure thing" players are going to require big money, will demand PT, and won't stick around unless they win an NCAA championship, and might not be easy to coach (can you imagine benching Olivia Miles, after you pay her $1 m?). Seems like the "Belichick model" of identifying lower-cost or underappreciated talent to get under the salary cap is the way to go, if possible.

If IU - Moren want to compete with deep tourney runs and against the elite teams they’re going to have to get bigger, more athletic— and with ranked - proven players. We have a good core and I am 100% a Moren believer, she built the women’s program with consistent 20-win seasons and tourney runs and is clearly a strong x’s and o’s coach, but bigger, more athletic teams with well-ranked players are our kryptonite, and NIL is here to stay, if you want to bring in and keep the better players you have to have the NIL bank to do so.

My ignorance about how the nuts and bolts and how NIL works from programs to programs 1.  Did  IU give the men’s 2024-2025 basketball program under the previous coach, players and coaches all with major big egos so much of NIL creating conflict with the IU Ladies Basketball program leaving IU Ladies in NIL poverty?

Several Ladies basketball programs of other schools have been recruiting at a significantly higher level than IU to this point in time…..and many of those schools should not be.

2.  I assume NIL only applies in a significant way to major power conferences…..Mid major not much…..and small colleges not at all.

NIL Revenue vs House by July 1st is still somewhat in limbo…. that will be determined or not determined clearly or vaguely or somewhat clearly or somewhat vaguely.
