I know they are trying their best and it’s probably hard to find volunteers to do it for a whole season. I appreciate that but none the less still hard to listen too.

Yeah it’s rough at times but fair point they travel to all these for free and show the away games so that is nice ...I usually turn volume off ....first half was awesome ...we got out coached badly and outplayed the second half ....barr Reeve is for real....Luke played pretty well against top competition

I know a lot of people don’t know much about Barr-Reeve but they are very good almost every single year. I thought Luke played a good game and I don’t get the impression he has a lot of help from his team on offense. Hagen Knepp #34 (6’4”) is one of Barr-Reeve’s better defenders and he had a hard time staying with Brown off the bounce. Bryson Graber #22 (6’3”) switched on to him the second half and I thought he watched up better. Nice job by Barr-Reeve’s coach on playing their typical game but  making a few adjustments at half. That motion weave BR runs at the end of halves is very hard to guard. Looks like an offensive set but is only used to burn clock or catch you sleeping for a back cut layup. Overall I thought the first half was great but the size of Barr-Reeve was too hard to overcome.

I agree with everything you said except it was graber in first half and knepp that covered him second half and you’re correct it worked better .....knepp graber and O’Neil are about as good a three man combo as I’ve seen the last three years ...also well coached and organized

Yes you are right, I got ahead of myself.

I've never heard worse announcers ever.  For anything.  Ever.   Did I say ever?

"The 6 foot 8er?"  Bar Reeves x 13,898,912.  Where is "the top of the free throw line?"

And Strobel needs to sit.  Kid'll kill a team.

Hey !  1. You’re totally right about the announcers we listen with the sound off when we are out of town 2. You just sound the most interesting thing I’ve heard all night ...if you have a second can you expound on the Stroble comment because I had a long convo with some other backford die hards at the hotel tonight and I would love an outsiders opinion

I'm afraid of walking into a bees nest, but...   watch the second play of the game and this sequence.

Takes a horrible shot (sort of "I have the ball, so it's my turn"), then lazy getting back on defense (less than a minute into the game) and gives up an easy layup with no effort.   Next possession, he gets back on his guy in the corner, but stands and watches on the rebound and Bar Reeve gets a put back.  Then...on offense, he stands still until he gets the ball on a drift and drives like a bull into the lane.."my turn" again.   Then..lazy again on defense in a press and guy blows right by him for another easy layup.   Then.....catches a pass (first pass of possession) and chucks a three from the top of the key.  Misses because he's a horrible shooter and it's a horrible shot.  So they have a bad shooter taking a bad shot.  Not a good recipe.  Then, he gets back on defense and loses his man almost immediately.  BR travels, so it didn't hurt them, but...   Couple of possessions later he throws a wild running left hand (his off hand and from 7 feet or so) off the backboard.  Then turns his back on a guy behind him on the baseline and gives up an alley oop.  So now, he's taken 3 bad shots and given up 6 points on the defensive end; and the game's barely 4 minutes old.

Now, some of it may be coaching because Blackford stands a lot on offense (and every kid plays straight up and down except Brown), and their zone is also lazy.  Strobel (and I had no clue who the kid was until I watched this video) was bad.  Lazy, selfish, and didn't seem to care one bit about anything but scoring points.  If I coached against him I'd attack him on every possession and let him shoot any time he wanted.  He's the guy off of whom I'd double Brown every time on his side of the floor.   I'd let him catch it any time he wanted it.

Before?  I just noticed he was awful.  I went back to watch again so I could reply, and I was right.

It actually hurts me to say this but that’s exactly what I was thinking you’d say and similar to the conclusion we reached.  He has actually always hovered around 40% ( or been a reliable shooter at least ) and so some of the misses were a little uncharacteristic but we literally touched on almost everything you noticed specifically the 1. Poor shot selection 2. The inability to recognize when his driving lane has closed and to kick to an open shooter and 3. MOST importantly his seeming refusal to work on defense or moving without the ball .....it’s incredibly disappointing because with his height and stretched build/ long arms he could be a force working the ball inside like knepp or the Montgomery kid from south ridge who are both similar length.  It’s almost like since brown is doing the scoring he is pouting and not willing to do the other necessary parts of the game ........we have noticed it in particular during this seasons games and so it was really interesting to have someone point it out from outside of Blackford thank you so much for sharing your thoughts as it kind of validates what I was seeing

You're very welcome.  Curious why it hurt you to say what you did?

He was a freshman and was forced to start the year before brown came ( during the 1-69 streak ) ...he had  potential to be a solid player  ...he’s a quiet and generally good natured kid and he has a really nice family So it was a little tough to swallow the objective evaluation even though it’s been pretty obvious through the season thus far

Got it.   I  wouldn't know him if he walked in here and kicked me, so I obviously wasn't assaulting his character.  To me, it looks like Blackford stands around and waits for Brown to do something, and doesn't  care much about defense.

I am impressed by Brown.  He won't need to handle the ball in college like he does now, and I think that'll make him an effective player wherever he ends up.   I wish the team around him played harder...it'd be easier to get a look at who he (Brown) really is.  Right now?  I see what his skills are and I see a very good basketball player; but it's so hard to tell how much would translate and how well he'd fit at Indiana.  I still say he'd fit just fine, but I'm not sure many agree with me.  He looks like a kid who'd be a very solid college upper classman at a high level and an immediate contributor at Purdue-Calumet.

I didn’t think you were giving Stroble a hard time I thought you were correct I just meant I hate to think of him as a detriment  to the team Since he’s from a good fam and a good kid ...I could see that being a correct take on Luke  ....I think the other kids on the Blackford team play hard in games that they are expected to contend when they get in a game against a big highly rated team they clam up under the bright lights ( other than Luke who is used to it ).  You should check out one of his games in summer league ...he played with hopf and Kaufman against top level competition and his scoring obviously wasn’t as high but he still scored and also lead the team in assists

Well glad that’s over ....I know three things ....1. There is no cell reception anywhere near that building 2. No idea what luke finished with I was too frustrated to pay that much attention but I do know he broke the all time tournament scoring record without forcing anything out of flow 3. Blackford couldn’t throw the ball in the ocean standing on the beach and luke brown was literally the only player on his team that cares if he won or lost ....loogootee out hustled every player on the floor the entire 32 minutes of the game

I’m showing Brown with 25.
