Hoosiers Close Fall Season with Western Michigan Super Challenge

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team will wrap up fall competition this weekend as they travel to Kalamazoo, Mich., for the WMU Super Challenge.

Women’s Tennis to Host Winter Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team will host the Indiana Winter Invitational at the IU Tennis Center, Jan. 19-21.
 
The Hoosiers will host Wichita State, Wright State, Marquette and Abilene Christian.  
 
Competition will start on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with two rounds of doubles. For the tournament there will be six rounds of doubles and two rounds of singles.

The Hoosiers began dual match play on Jan. 26 at home against Xavier and Cincinnati.

Women’s Tennis Set to Host Hoosier Classic

 

 

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.– The Indiana women's tennis team will start the fall season by hosting the Hoosier Classic, Sept. 27-29 at the IU Varsity Tennis Courts.
 
Play will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday with one round of singles followed by two rounds of doubles. Doubles will start at approximately 2:30 PM.
 
Teams will include: Indiana, Western Michigan, Xavier, Wright State, Louisville, Cincinnati, Marquette, Miami University, Bowling Green and Middle Tennessee.
 
The Indiana 2019-20 roster features three returning players in senior Caitlin Bernard and juniors Jelly Bozovic and Michelle McKamey. New players include senior Annabelle Andrinopoulous and freshmen Xiaowi "Rose" Hu, Lexi Kubas, Mila Mejic and Alexandra Staiculescu.
 
IU head coach Ramiro Azcui begins his third season at the helm of the program after serving over 24 years as associate head coach. His assistant coach, Ryan Miller begins his third season with the program.
 
"We have a great tournament to get things started with a lot of solid teams," Azcui said. "I'm looking forward to seeing our kids play and watching them develop over the course of the season."
 
This tournament will be the Hoosiers only home competition of the fall season

ITA Regional Championships Next for Women’s Tennis

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.– The Indiana women's tennis team will travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for the ITA Regional Championships hosted by Middle Tennessee State University.
 
The Hoosiers will send their entire roster to compete in the tournament, which begins Thursday Oct. 17.

The Hoosiers will be competing in their second tournament of the fall season as they opened at home in the Hoosier Classic Sept. 27-29 in Bloomington.
 
Michelle McKamey posted a record of 6-1 at the Hoosier Classic with a 2-1 record in singles and a 4-0 mark in doubles. Four different players won two of their three singles matches at the tournament.
 
The ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country. In Division I, regional doubles champions and regional singles champions and finalists qualify for the season-ending Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.– The Indiana women's tennis team wrapped up competition in the IU Winter Invitational on Monday.
 
The tournament brought five other teams to Bloomington as the Hoosiers were joined by Marshall, Wright State, Marquette, Northern Illinois and DePaul.
 
Through the first four rounds of doubles, the Hoosiers recorded an overall record of 13-3. Michelle McKamey and Lexi Kubas combined to go 4-0 as did Mila Mejic and Rose Hu.
 
Indiana totaled seven singles wins with Hu winning both of her two singles matches.
 
Up next the Hoosiers travel to Alabama to take on Alabama and UAB on Jan. 25, before returning home for a match against Kentucky on Jan. 31.

Hoosiers On The Road to Match Up Against Cornell, Yale

Last Time Out for the Hoosiers
Last time out the Hoosiers split matches against No. 20 Tennessee and Eastern Michigan. After coming up short in the match against Tennessee, the Hoosiers rebounded in a big way for a 7-0 sweep of Eastern Michigan.
 
Back at Home
The Hoosiers will be back at home next when they host Cincinnati and Ball State on February 23 at the IU Tennis Center.
 
A Look at the Stats
The Hoosiers have seven different seven with five or more singles wins on the season, led by Michelle McKamey with 10 wins. In doubles Michelle McKamey and Lexi Kubas have combined for an 8-1 record and Annabelle Andrinopoulos and Jelly Bozovic are a combined 10-4 on the season.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.– The Indiana women's tennis team will travel to Northwestern on Friday and return for a home match against Penn State on Sunday as they open conference action this weekend.

Last Time Out for the Hoosiers
Last time out the Hoosiers improved to 8-4 on the season with a 4-0 win against Cincinnati and a 6-1 win over Ball State.   
 
A Look at the Stats
Michelle McKamey leads the Hoosiers with 14 singles wins on the season, including a 9-1 record in dual matches. Six Hoosiers have at least eight singles wins on the season. In doubles, the team of Annabelle Andrinopoulos and Jelly Bozovic have posted an overall record of 12-4 on the season.
 
Navy & West Point  
The Hoosiers have had the chance to visit both Navy and Army West Point on their travels this season. Indiana played Navy and this past weekend played Cornell at West Point. In their trip to New York this past weekend the Hoosiers also got to see some of the sights in downtown New York City.
 
President McRobbie Visits
Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie continued his tour of all of IU's 24 athletic programs Sunday, visiting the IU Tennis Center for the Hoosiers match vs. Tennessee on Feb. 9. McRobbie and First Lady Laurie Burns McRobbie visited with IU head coach Ramiro Azcui and the team before the match and supported the Hoosiers throughout the match.
 
2018-19 Season in Review
The Hoosiers finished 16-11 overall and 6-5 in Big Ten dual matches last season. Seniors Madison Appel and Natalie Whalen earned All-Big Ten Honors.
