Tournament Notes
This collegiate women's golf championship is named for Alexa Stirling (1897-1977), an American-Canadian amateur golfer and member of the Atlanta Athletic Club. She won the US Women's Amateur in 1916, 1919 & 1920, the Canadian Women's Amateur in 1920 & 1930 and has spots in the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame, Georgia Golf Hall of Fame and Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.

Harper Among the Best in the Nation
Erin Harper has continued to prove that she is among the top golfers in the country. She qualified for the NCAA Madison Regional last year as a junior and then advanced on to the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Oklahoma as well. Most recently, she qualified to Stage II of LPGA Q-School in Florida. Harper has finished outside of the Top 30 in tournament play just once in her last 18 tournaments.

Bellville's Back
Graduate transfer Kari Bellville recorded her best individual finish in over three years at the Illini Invite at Medinah after carding rounds of 69-72-75 earned her a tie for 25th. It was her best finish since a T4 showing at the Chip-N Club Invite on Oct. 6, 2015 while competing for Notre Dame. And the opening round 69 at Medinah was just one stroke shy of matching her career best round. Her scoring average of 75.50 so far this season is 1.30 strokes better than her previous single-season best of 76.80 set back in 2015-16.

Parsons is Producing
Sophomore Mary Parsons is getting back into the swing of things after a difficult start to the 2018-19 season. She finished T49 at the Mary Fossum Invitational in her first appearance of the season. But has followed that up with a runner-up showing at the Butler Fall Invitational and then rebounded with a T20 finish at Medinah the last time out. As a freshman, she led the Hoosiers with a scoring average of 73.31

Tournament 1 Recap – Cougar Classic
The Cougar Classic hosted by the College of Charleston was shortened to 36-holes after mandatory evacuations were ordered by the state of South Carolina ahead of Hurricane Florence. Indiana got off to a rocky start in round one but rebounded in round two to finish 16th out of 19 teams. Individually, Erin Harper paced the Hoosiers at 2-under par, which was good for a tie for 22nd. Sophomore Angela Aung and freshman Alexis Miestowski both tied for 48th at 4-over par.

Tournament 2 Recap – Mary Fossum Invitational
After an opening round score of 289 had the Hoosiers in third place at the Mary Fossum Invitational, Indiana would go on to finish eighth with a total score of 892 (+28). Leading the way was senior Erin Harper, who carded rounds of 70-74-72 to tie for sixth place at Even par. Angela Aung joined her in the Top 25 after her score of 222 (71-75-76) put her in a tie for 24th.

Tournament 3 Recap – Illini Invite at Medinah
Indiana brought home a T10 finish out of 15 teams at the Illini Invite at Medinah. The top team finisher was graduate transfer Kari Bellville, who finished tied for 25th with a score of 216 (69-72-75; E). Mary Parsons, competing as an individual, garnered a T20 placement after rounds of 74-71-70 put her at 1-under par for the tournament.

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – Indiana University women's golf head coach Clint Wallman announced today that Lauren Whyte, a decorated collegiate player and rising star in the coaching profession, has been named an assistant coach with the Hoosiers. She will also serve as the recruiting coordinator.

After graduating from the University of Denver in 2018, Whyte served as a graduate assistant coach at Mercer University during the 2018-19 season, where she helped the Bears achieve the best Golfstat team ranking in program history. She also helped guide them to a pair of wins and two more runner-up finishes while helping freshman Carol Pyon to her first collegiate win and a spot on the Southern Conference All-Freshman team.

"We are ecstatic to add a coach with the pedigree that Coach Whyte brings to the table," Wallman said. "She has competed at the highest level in college, advancing to the NCAA Championship Match Play finals, and has seamlessly made the transition to the coaching ranks. I know our team will enjoy getting to know her and is excited to start working with her."

Whyte (pronounced "White") played collegiately at Baylor University for two seasons (2014-15, 2015-16) and the University of Denver for two seasons (2016-17, 2017-18). She began her career at Baylor and, as a freshman, helped the Bears to their first-ever Big 12 Conference title by finishing in a tie for 28th. The team then went on to win the NCAA San Antonio Regional, the first regional title in program history, and advanced to the match play portion of the NCAA Championship. In the match play portion, Whyte went 1-2 but her one win was an important one as she defeated Lisa Maguire from Duke on the 24th hole to clinch Baylor's spot in the championship match against Stanford.

Following her sophomore season at Baylor, Whyte transferred to the University of Denver for her final two years of eligibility. In her two seasons with the Pioneers, she posted a 75.06 scoring average and was the team captain. She helped improve Denver's Golfstat ranking from 53 to 18 and garnered First and Second Team All-Summit League honors while also winning the 2017 Summit League Championship and finishing eighth individually.

"I have to thank Coach Wallman for giving me this great opportunity to join the Indiana women's golf program" Whyte said. "Indiana has been a force on the national stage recently and it is so exciting to be able join the staff and do all that I can to keep them there and also help them reach for new heights on and off the course."

Her international experience includes being a member of the Scotland National U-18 Girls team for three years and captaining the team at the European Girls Team Championship from 2011-14. She also won the Scottish Girls U-18 Championship in 2012 and participated in the European Young Masters in 2011 and 2012 with Scotland.

Whyte earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Denver in 2018 and her Masters in Higher Education Leadership in 2019 from Mercer University.

We'll bring this thread out of its 2-year hibernation.  What a day for the IU women's golf program.  Not only did they clinch an outright win of the Governor's Cup but they won the whole darn Big Ten Championship tournament!

Women as a team shot -8 at the Bulle Rock course in Havre de Grace, MD to take the win over second place Michigan State who finished the tournament at -7.  In today's final round, the IU women were -5.

Individually, Caroline Craig finished at -7 for the tournament to finish in 3-way tie for 1st place and Caroline Smith finished at -5 to finish tied for 4th.

Oh, PUke as a team finished at even par to tie for 4th place.
