mamasa Posted January 23, 2019 Author Posted January 23, 2019 Welcome aboard! Seems like a great hire! Indiana University Welcomes IU Legend Kayla Bashore as Head Field Hockey Coach BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—Indiana University Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass today named Kayla Bashore as the new head coach of the Indiana Field Hockey program. A former IU Big Ten Player of the Year, two-time All-American and two-time Olympian, Bashore arrives with eight years of collegiate coaching experience, most recently as an assistant coach at Brown University. "We are thrilled to welcome Kayla back to Bloomington to lead our field hockey program into a new, exciting era," said Glass. "Both here at IU and through her post-collegiate career, Kayla excelled at the highest level nationally and internationally for more than a decade, including two trips to the Olympics. As a coach, she has a reputation as an outstanding recruiter with a proven record of success during her eight years as an assistant coach. She has a passion for the program and its players to be successful academically, athletically, and personally." Bashore is a 2005 Indiana University graduate who was a two-time All-American and four-time All-Big Ten selection for the Hoosiers. After her IU playing career, she also served as an IU assistant coach from 2006-2007. In addition to her two-year stint on the IU coaching staff, Bashore has also been an assistant coach at Columbia (2009), Transylvania University (2010-11) and Brown University (2014-16). "I am very grateful to IU Athletics and the hiring committee for the opportunity to become the head field hockey coach, and especially Fred Glass and Kristin Borelli for taking a special interest in supporting the program," Bashore said. "I am honored to have this opportunity at the program I came from, and am really looking forward to leading the program." During her Indiana playing career, she received numerous awards including Big Ten Player of the Year (2005), NFCA All-American (2003 & 2005), first-team All-Big Ten (2002, 2003, 2005), the Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship & Leadership Award (2003), and the IU Balfour Award (2001). She ranks among the program's all-time leaders in goals (6th), points (7th) and shots (2nd). She captained IU's 2005 team, which advanced to the second-round of the NCAA Tournament, finished as the Big Ten runners-up, and still owns the program record for single-season wins (17). Following her All-America playing career for the Hoosiers, Bashore went on to a highly-successful eight-year run at the international level as a national team member with USA Field Hockey, participating in 175 international competitions. Highlighting her stint with Team USA was the opportunity to compete in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, where her teams placed eighth and 12th, respectively. In addition to her standout playing and coaching resume, Bashore is also the founder of two youth field hockey programs throughout the country. She co-founded Whitewater Festival, Inc., in 2007 in Mountain Top, Penn., which is a company that designs, implements, and manages youth field hockey tournaments, camps, and clinics for children ages 4 to 18. She served as its president from 2007-10. As part of her Whitewater Festival role, she started the KaPow Field Hockey Club, which has grown to 180 current members. She also founded San Diego-based Abundant Life Sports, L.L.C. in 2012, which manages a variety of youth field hockey programs for kids ages 5 to 18. The events have expanded to three locations—Los Altos, Cal., San Diego, Cal., and Hamburg, Penn. HoosierAloha 1 Quote
