    I’ll never know how true this is, but I was told by what I believed was a pretty good source back when it purportedly happened that Alford was in negotiations to take the job after Davis’ interim year but Brand nixed it at the last minute and decided IU was keeping Davis full time.

    I’ll be honest, I’m almost 60, was a couple years behind him at IU, and I would have preferred him over most of our previous hires since Knight. But not now.

    For the first 31 years of his life, he hadn’t been a head coach at all. It seems he did pretty well regardless.

    I don’t remember who posted it right after the Woodson retirement was announced, but one of our insiders said this coaching search will feature a lot of denials, smokescreens, and misdirections. Certainly, that seems to be holding true. Probably many more to come before it’s over.

    I think it's because he doesn't want the topic of Brad Stevens to continue to dominate the conversations. He doesn't have any info on Stevens so he needs to be able to talk about other possibilities....otherwise the conversations will be short with little information shared. He doesn’t have info on anybody

    The nature of his extension, in my opinion, seems like a nice reward for an unexpectedly tremendous job this year, rather than Michigan giving him a huge raise and skyrocketing the buyout because they’re scared as hell that they’re going to lose him

    And that’s the funny thing to me. Move on from Brad. But not Cronin, Drew, Beard, etc. Why? There’s only one guy getting the job, and all the rest of them aren’t. So why is there only one he can’t talk about?

    Because I think Scott knows he has to. This is the last chance. There are a lot of us who grew up with a great basketball program who are tired of investing in the underachieving crap of the past 25-30 years. We will find something else to invest in if it doesn’t happen this time, and I think Scott is well aware of that.

    I don't know how it likely it would be to have a current college coach locked up for next year, but we'll see.
