Yeah, there are legitimate and specific reasons why 3 coaches and at least 1 player did not follow DeVries here. All the “concern” I see about that is pretty much nonsense.

This guy looked like a can’t-miss superstar coach before Kentucky hired him. Turned around a couple Texas programs that were basically dead, and made them big winners. I can’t help but note that Chris Beard’s career is eerily similar.

Bracketology and Team Resumes

Looking at this year's bubble teams is why I'm so against expanding the tournament field. In fact, I'd like to see it go back to 64. There just aren't that many teams deserving to play in a championship tournament. -
I’d throw Gonzaga in as the 8th and slide Purdue down to 9th. I’d slide Connecticut out.

For those biting their nails about IU getting in the tournament if they lose 3 more games, I give you this: Joe Lunardi still has IU as a 9 seed in his latest bracket this morning, same as last Friday, even with the 20-point loss to Illinois. Moreover, consider this: Last Friday, Virginia Tech was either in Lunardi’s first 4 out or next 4 out (I can’t remember which). Over the weekend, they lost 92-69 on their home court to a Florida State team that came into the game with an 11-13 record. Today, Virginia Tech still appears as one of Lunardi’s next 4 out. Moral of the story: bubble teams are very flawed, and IU will not have to be even close to perfect to get in. -
I know I’ll be in the minority here, but if you’re gonna have 24 teams in, I think every FBS conference champion should get an automatic bid, just like FCS. Otherwise, you’re gonna have 4- and 5-loss at-large teams getting in sometimes, which I think is ridiculous.

I think Wilkerson just knocked Edwards out of the top 4, because Edwards made 81 in 1988-89.

Alford is the best shooter I’ve ever seen in my life. Still remember his semi-state performance for New Castle against Broad Ripple (I believe that’s right). They full-court pressed him and beat the crap out of him the whole game, and he went 16-26 from the field (no 3 pointers then, but most of his shots were from that range) and 25-25 FTs for 57 points.

I have met several Iowa fans. I’d guess a lot of them are still at home shooting nasty emails off to Steve Alford. And I’m only half joking about that.

I never saw any metric produced by anybody that supported leaving them out.

I've seen this posted a lot. But other than Hansberry, none of them are really doing anything. Who would you have wanted to follow him here?

The way things are looking right now, beating Ohio State would be huge. Some teams to keep an eye on are Miami FL, Missouri, California, Texas, and New Mexico. But there’s still a lot of ball to be played. That could all change. -
Back in the day, being the best fan base wasn’t a haughty idea, it was a fact. That’s what a lot of players said when they came here. That’s one of the things that drew them here. It’s funny that people can recognize that a sold out, loud Assembly Hall full of fans can help a team win, but can’t recognize what a Fire The Coach thread on one of the most visited IU fan sites, after 16 games of his tenure, can do. But yeah, sadly, you’re probably right. Being the best fan base is probably just a haughty idea now.
