lol It doesn't claim IU has a good chance at landing him, just that it could be a good fit in their opinion.

IU shows up on this list: https://247sports.com/LongFormArticle/College-basketball-transfer-portal-Best-potential-fits-for-Oregon-five-star-transfer-Kelel-Ware-207403557/#207403557_4

IMO, you should be rooting against Wisconsin regardless.

With Dakich, every day is Fool's Day, not just April 1st.
-
Yep. I'd say that the majority of posters were skeptical that he would be able to play that position.

The first post in this thread has a link to the 247 portal tracking page. Here's a link: https://247sports.com/Season/2023-Basketball/TransferPortalTop/ There's also a link there to a verbal commits page which seems to keep up with who is in the portal in real time or at least close to that. What's interesting about that one is you see players enter the portal and very quickly commit to a new school. Totally legit with no tampering, I'm sure.

There aren't 5 openings at this time, only 3. The 2 incoming freshmen are promised scholarships. Technically, there's not even 5 players leaving (yet), just 4 since JHS hasn't announced for the draft (yet).

Dusty May - FAU HC - Former IU student manager
go iu bb replied to ISP's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I was pretty clear about what I'm not buying so I'll just quote myself: If you think we'd still have a thread dedicated to him with people clamoring for him to be the next coach at this time with IU having just had a relatively successful season and not looking for a coach if he weren't connected to IU, that's your right. But I'll just ask where is the thread dedicated to Jerome Tang who has done a fabulous job at K State? Why is there no thread for him right now? I'll venture that it's because he doesn't have an IU connection. If IU was looking for a new coach, there would be a thread for him. I would put money on that. No one is saying that May hasn't done a good job at FAU because he has and this run is great. But so many saying right now that he should be IU's next coach? Premature. -
You think the coaches just assumed that LD sucks and that's why he didn't get much PT? You don't think they evaluated how he preformed in practice and the bit of PT he actually got? IU fans might assume he sucks because he didn't get much PT, even on a couple of teams that didn't have a lot of depth. When he did get into games he didn't do much.

So you're saying that even if he didn't have an IU connection there would still be a thread, now at 6 pages, dedicated to him with IU fans saying they want him as the next coach? This even though IU just had its most successful season in over half a decade? There was a thread about Porter Moser but that was a different situation since IU had just fired Miller at the time. It's too early to tell if he's closer to Stevens than Miller or vice versa. Time will tell that either by FAU remaining good and having deep runs with him at the helm (or not) or by how he does at his next stop. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree whether or not he would have a thread about him right now clamoring for him to be IU's next coach if he wasn't connected to IU. I'm not buying it. -
IU Mens/Womens Swimming and Diving

IU has historically had a lot of diving success (21 titles now) but Tyler was the first Hoosier to win a platform title. https://iuhoosiers.com/news/2023/3/26/mens-swimming-and-diving-hoosiers-finish-fourth-nationally-tyler-takes-platform-title -
Typical Izzo. Can't stand the guy. https://nypost.com/2023/03/24/tom-izzo-draws-ire-from-march-madness-2023-fans-over-lucky-comment/

I've seen those rumors and treat as just that. They very well could be true but I see Woodson still going on the road and recruiting. -

Can we at least wait until the season is over before putting him in the Hall of Fame? He has his team on a great NCAA tournament run. There's no arguing that. However, that doesn't mean anything. He might be a future HOF coach or he might be a coach who has ~55% at a low/mid major school then fails when moving up. Can't really say either way at this time. It's kind of surprising at how many IU fans are appointing him as the next IU coach based purely on this single tournament run considering the past 23 years. Davis made the championship game at IU but it turned out he wasn't a very good coach. Tom Crean made the FF at Marquette and we know how up and down he was at IU. Miller took Dayton to the E8 and we would all like to forget his time at IU. Taking at school like FAU to the FF could be a sign of greatness. It could also be a fluke. There is simply no way to say for sure which it is based just on this one tournament run. Time, and hopefully moving up to a better school, will tell. Besides, Woodson is only in year 2 and just had the best season since before Miller arrived at IU. Maybe give him some time before shoving him out the door for this shiny new coach? -
He's already my favorite player on the team next year. I love that he's actively trying to help recruiting before even stepping on campus. I know it's not uncommon for recruits try to help recruit one or two of their buddies, but he seems to be working really hard at it, above and beyond the norm. I hope it helps land players like Bidunga.

I can believe it.

Carson Tyler is the National Champion for platform diving. Quentin Henninger got 3rd. Burns finished 2nd in the 200 fly. It was a close fight between 3rd and 6th place. IU finished only 5 points behind Texas and 5.5 points ahead of NC State. Florida was only 6 points behind them. NC State was on fire today, starting by going 1-2 in the mile and their swimmer just beat Burns in the 200 fly. The difference was the diving. https://swimswam.com/2023-division-i-mens-ncaa-championships-day-4-finals-live-recap/ Here's hos close it was: between 3rd or 4th in the team standings came down to less than 0.1 seconds in the final relay. If Texas had gone 0.05 seconds slower or IU had gone 0.09 seconds faster, then IU and Texas would've swapped spots in the final standings. -

Matt Roth just won a state championship as a head coach. Why is he not in this premature conversation as a possible Woodson replacement? -
Or they're still processing the feedback from the meeting and are weighing their options.

They get 4 swimmers into the A finals: 100 free - Mathias (7) 200 breast - Matheny (6) 200 fly - Burns (4), Frankel (7) - there is also a swim off for the 8th spot so unlikely Frankel finishes worse than that The divers will likely come through with some points. Hafnaoui certainly would've helped. IU isn't going to score any points in the 1650 this year and didn't score in the 500. Edit: Hoosiers are in a good position to hold on to 4th place, especially when taking diving into account. https://swimswam.com/2023-mens-ncaas-day-4-ups-downs-cal-puts-it-foot-down/ -
We sucked in the years he was at IU too.
-
Whaaaat? Didn't get enough chances? He played in 82 games under 2 coaching staffs. Under Woodson, he played in 61 games for ~12.5 minutes per. That's just chances in games. He's had countless chances in practice to gain the confidence of the coaches. You really don't think that's giving him enough chances?

An article before tonight's finals about Van Mathias changing up his events this year. It's paid off for him and IU. https://swimswam.com/fifth-year-van-mathias-makes-most-of-lineup-change-qualifies-2nd-overall-in-100-breast/ IU "won" day, scoring 160 points. https://swimswam.com/2023-mens-ncaa-championships-day-3-scoring-analysis/ Article on Burns' win. It has a video of the race and he had a great 3rd turn/underwater. Hit the wall 4th and was 1st when he came up. https://swimswam.com/brendan-burns-rockets-to-3-all-time-in-100-back-with-upset-ncaa-title-in-43-61/
