@btownqb, is your stance that since IU has historically sucked we should be satisfied with Tom Allen as coach? He's not a good coach but that is what IU should be fine with since they haven't had success in the past. That seems to be what you're saying. If that is the case, why bother even having a football program? Maybe the 100 fans that go to games should just stop going.

They're talking about transfers. Just schools instead of players. ;)

JHS was originally committed to Pitt. IU got him after he decommitted. -

You say this so often when talking about who players don't follow. We get it. It's like you're trying to start the argument back up again. -

2023 SF/PF Mackenzie Mgbako to Texas A&M via Portal

People on message boards are just guessing at what a player is looking for or repeating what someone else who is probably also guessing says the player is looking for. So if you take those statements as gospel, that's on you. Even when a player says himself what he's looking for, that's only part of the equation and there are many other factors that he doesn't mention. -
I'm sure he'll be satisfied there and won't enter the transfer portal next year.
-
He entered the draft and it sounded pretty definite when he did. Something about having graduated and moving on to the next step.

Max Abmas to Texas. Really good pickup for them. Edit: I guess this happened a couple of days ago but I missed it then. I wonder if has anything to do with Holland decommitting. They play different positions but I wonder if Holland thought he wouldn't get as many shots as he wants.

6'9" PF Anthony Walker TO INDIANA
go iu bb replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Exciting? No, I'll agree with you there. Do all the commitments have to be exciting though? You can't really have a team of 13 stars. It's obviously a depth addition and he only has 1 year of eligibility left, as you point out. His sophomore and junior seasons were both better than last year so he can do better. I look at him as a Geronimo replacement who is a slight upgrade due to being 3" taller and a better perimeter defender. I'll only start be be worried if the staff continues to go after more players like this instead of wings but I don't think that will happen. Look at the other players IU is recruiting now to show that isn't the case. -
That was his sophomore year when he started a lot of games and his mpg was way up. His junior season his mpg dropped but he still averaged about the same points per minute which worked out to ~14 points per 40 minutes. Last season his numbers dropped off a bit but hopefully he can get back to his sophomore/junior year production or better. 4 seasons in the ACC make it more of a sure thing that he'll be able to play well in the B1G rather than the risk of a player moving up in competition from a mid- or low-major school. Seems like a solid pickup. Numbers-wise he looks like a replacement for Geronimo but he's taller and is a better perimeter defender.

(2020) SF Jordan Geronimo to Maryland
go iu bb replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The staff will have a very thorough scouting report of Geronimo when IU plays Maryland and the team should be able to exploit his weaknesses when he's in the game. -
6'9" PF Anthony Walker TO INDIANA

That's what IU got here. Looking at his numbers, he's been pretty consistent over his career. He's not going to score a ton but he's a known element who played 4 years in the ACC and was a starter 1 season. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/anthony-walker-7.html -
Those were certainly factors from his standpoint but from IU's side the factor is his subpar play over his 2 seasons. I think it was a mutual parting of ways.

I wonder if Ya had some influence in this. It could help recruiting if we show players from the south east that we're willing to play games in the area.
-
Isn't this thread in the wrong forum? I'm not complaining since it's nice not having to switch between forums to read active threads but it seems like it should be in the recruiting forum.
-
I've seen that on message boards but never really believed it. No reason to leave a scholarship open if you can get a decent player for 1 season via the transfer portal.

Each conference effectively has it's own little monopoly. Sure, there are other schools and conferences but none of those have the advantage of the emotional attachment that fans have with their current fandom. Sure, they can lose fans but for the most part I would guess that the numbers don't change much. As such, there isn't any real motivation to choose the fans over money when they can choose the money and keep the fans. So you're absolutely correct and the options of fans probably isn't much of a factor at all when making decisions. Probably doesn't even get brought up.

Good news: waiver granted https://www.insidethehall.com/2023/04/26/xavier-johnson-granted-medical-hardship-waiver-will-return-for-2023-24-season/

I thought he had already committed to Alabama so he had probably also signed with them. That means the coach can talk about him by name.

https://247sports.com/college/indiana/Article/Five-Indiana-IU-Hoosiers-mens-and-womens-basketball-players-among-top-NIL-March-Madness-earners-208887677/ The coaching staff needs to be selling this to recruits. Even a player like Galloway who isn't an All-American like TJD and Holmes or a future NBA/WNBA player like JHS and Berger can earn good NIL money at IU.

Good news: No UT on that list.
